The Injustice of Internet Pricing in Rural Communities
The Injustice of Internet Pricing in Rural Communities
We are paying more for our internet service than most people pay for cable, but somehow we don’t have enough data to stream a movie off Netflix.
This may not sound like a big deal. You might think I sound entitled or am getting upset over a service I should be grateful to have. But I’m not so sure. There is ample evidence that inferior WiFi connections disadvantage us, and West Virginia at large.…

I’ve been wanting to start posting reviews for a while now, and I am feeling particularly….. passionate about my relationship with Frontier right now. So here you go, a review of Frontier Communications.
Service: Basic wireless internet, for $34.99 a month. I’ve had it for a little over a month. When I signed up, I was told that the price was $29.99, but when my first bill came it was $34.99, at which point I was informed that I needed to sign up for automatic bill payments in order to get the "discount", but because I waited until after my bill came to call about my bill being incorrect (WTF?), I'd have to pay the full price and it would be taken off the next bill. I signed up for the stupid autopay. They didn't give me the discount. Sigh.
Availability: 1/5 I purchased a basic internet package from Frontier Communications when I moved into a rural area. There is no other internet service in my area, so if I wanted to use my laptop as anything other than an overpriced paperweight, I had to get Frontier. However, it was actually kind of difficult to find their phone number online. There is a building 3 houses down from me that I am reasonably sure is some sort of service center, since the Frontier repair van is always parked out front and the logo is nailed to the side of it. I knocked on the door to see if they could help, but there was no answer. Eventually I found the number and it was relatively easy to sign up. The rep sounded (in hindsight, suspiciously) excited to have someone willing to purchase service.
