Weekly Prayer Request

Please pray for my patients this week, including an adult who is in the process of passing away and leaving a young child behind, two babies who were in a car accident caused by their father spinning out of control after evading police, A girl whose brain tumor may have come back, a boy with a newly diagnosed brain tumor (malignancy unknown), a NICU baby who was taken off life support, and for all healthcare workers including myself to not become jaded and judgmental of patients and families as they come to the Emergency Department seeking help.

Safer working conditions (0 tolerance for continued patient to nurse abuse)

Benefits for part time workers making full time hours

Appropriate PPE

I mean, I’ll settle for a black pen. That’s fine too. I’m exhausted.

I was offered the covid vaccine a month ago but haven't booked in yet.

If you're wondering why I was offered it, it's because I'm a frontline social care worker. I've seen a lot of stories about the vaccine and I was concerned to take it. My colleague is very anti-covid vaccine so he put doubts in my head. Then my parents had theirs done. I'm scared of getting covid. For myself but also my parents. I don't 100% trust the vaccine if I'm being honest but after consideration, I am going to go ahead with it (with medical approval first). I've seen others with my bleeding disorder get it. They use a shorter needle. Hopefully I am okay as technically I'm not supposed to have any intramuscular injections but they haven't made it with another method as I usually get mine subcutaneously. Tomorrow I will call the haemophilia centre at the hospital to see if there's any precautions I should take before/after and then book myself in.

Working in Healthcare Right Now

I had been pretty lucky to work in a part of healthcare where I didn’t have to have direct contact with COVID-19 patients on a regular basis. However, recently my company has told us we have to “volunteer” at our designated COVID-19 clinic where our patients get treatment. My husband being immune compromised doesn’t give me an excuse because EVERYONE in my company either has children, immune compromised relatives, or are immune compromised themselves. So, I started going. Luckily, we have enough PPE to cover us all, unlike hospitals and nursing homes. The patients I have come into contact with are pretty close to their “run” at the clinic. It has given me access to the vaccine earlier than others. My experience hasn’t been the worst.

This only makes me angrier when I see people not social distancing or masking up. It makes me furious to hear some people I called friends until this point talk about how they refuse to wear a mask because it does nothing for them or that only people who wear masks are getting the virus. How can people ignore science? How can they not care about other human beings to the point they willingly endanger their loved ones every time they walk out of the house? What possess them to be so...stupid? I honestly don’t know how I can call someone a friend if they have such a high disregard for themselves and others. Then, they get angry with me when I tell them we cannot be friends if they do not take the masks and social distancing seriously. 

I fucking hate people somedays.
