Daenerys Targaryen Appreciation Week: AU

Daenerys Targaryen, the daughter of King Aerys II Targaryen and his sister-wife Queen Rhaella, is one of the last survivors of House Targaryen, along with her brother Viserys. In her youth, Daenerys was a meek, timid girl with little confidence and knew no other life than exile and constant fear of Viserys. Although she had matured enough to recognize that her brother was weak, cowardly, and cruel, his enduring fixation with retaking the crown he felt was his birthright had instilled in Daenerys a similar belief that reclaiming the Seven Kingdoms is both her right and her duty as the last of the Targaryens.

Viserys and Daenerys eventually found the help they sought in the Free City of Pentos, in the form of a rich and powerful magister, Illyrio Mopatis, who invited them to stay in his mansion and offered his help in reclaiming their throne. While Daenerys and her brother stay with him, the magister arranges a marriage between Dany and the powerful Asgardian God of Mischief, Loki Laufeyson. In return, Loki is to provide Viserys with ten thousand warriors for his fight in retaking the Iron Throne.

The Silver-Haired Queen is initially deeply afraid of her husband; however, as she slowly starts to melt his icy heart and cold exterior, she begins to see the broken, misunderstood god underneath and grows to love him -- she even begins to take on Asgardian customs. She finds strength and determination for the first time, which leads her to stand up to Viserys and his despicable attempts to threaten her.
