Merry Christmas, @buckygolucky ! Here’s your belated Secret Santa gift!
Soulmate: Steve Rogers
This is my fic for @spiderprker . Merry Christmas babes
Soulmates. The person you were destined to be with. You grew up hearing how your parents and grandparents met. You dad had fallen during art class and died his whole arm neon pink. Your grandma had been baking a cake when she dropped the pan on her foot burning a mark onto her skin.
That’s how everyone “knew” who their soulmate was. Soulmates shared marks and pain, anything that had to do with your body. Drawings, tattoos, bruises, anything that would make an impression.
As you grew up though, you never found an unknown mark on your skin. Not one bump or bruise, not an accidental pen mark. Nothing. Your friends laughed because what if you didn’t have a soulmate. You never let them affect you when you were younger, claim your soulmate was perfect and never made a mistake.
As you got older though, you began to doubt it. It was rare for a person to not have a soulmate. Your mom always gave you a small smile when your cousin came over, showing her latest bruise or drawing on her skin.
She knew that you would never admit it, but you resented everyone one you knew who talked about soulmates.
When you turned 18, you couldn’t handle the looks of pity anymore and moved to New York. A fresh start. No one would have to know that you didn’t have a soulmate.
And that’s what you did. You made friends, got a job you loved. You never really thought about soulmates anymore, unless you were home at night by yourself, your neighbors laughing loudly.
You had been in New York for a couple years when it appeared. A bruise, on your abdomen, large and about the size of a large fist. Shaking your head you tried to think of when you were hit, and looked around your room for anything of that size.
Frowning when you were met with nothing you sighed and went to work, setting a reminder to call your mom in the morning. On the way out the door you ran into the counter, cursing when you looked at your hip to find a small oval bruise starting to form.
————————————————-
“Welcome to the 21st century Captain.” Nick said to Steve as he walked into the room the men had led Steve to after he had tried to escape.
“Who are you?” Steve asked the man crossing his arms over his chest, cautious of the man in front of him. Last thing he remembered is putting the plane into the ice. Bucky was gone, his soulmate seemed to be nonexistent. He had nothing to live for and now here he was. In a strange room, with a strange man, in a strange century.
“Nick Fury. I helped get you from the ice. Nice to finally meet you Captain.” Nick said watching the blonde man in front of him, afraid that he would try and run again, frowning when he saw Steve wince suddenly.
“You alright Captain?” he asked the taller man as Steve uncrossed his arm, raising his shirt.
Shaking his head “Yea I jus-“he began stopping as he watched a yellow bruise starting to form on his hip. When the bruise was fully formed he looked up at Nick, furrowing his eyebrows.
“Well Captain, it looks like your soulmate just ran into the corner of something.” Nick said waving a doctor in to start taking some tests.
Even though you had promised yourself no one in New York would find out that you didn’t have a soulmate you had ended up telling your best friends, Kate and Lauren. So when you told them that you had a bruise on your stomach they had pulled you into the break room and demanded you showed them.
Sighing you lifted your shirt just enough to show them the edge of the bruise, you were at your workplace after all. Setting your shirt back in place you plopped into a near-by chair, sighing as you ran your hand along your face.
“I just don’t get it. I’ve gone all my life without as much as a spot from someone else. Then suddenly a large bruise appears on my stomach?” you said, your tone displaying how confused and upset you felt. You felt your friends wrap their arms around you.
“Y/N, there could be a perfe-“Lauren was cut off by one of your co-workers rushing through. Stopping when he saw the three of you in the room.Opening the door he looked at you a boyish gleam in his eyes “Captain America was found! They are making a public speech about it!” he exclaimed quickly before running off to tell the others.
Laughing you shook your head, standing up and making sure you looked presentable “Well if Captain America can be found after 70 years then I could have a soulmate, right?” you said in a joking tone as the three of you headed back to your desks to finish what you needed.
——————————————–
“Captain Rogers, you need to go out more. Even if it only to go get a coffee or whatever.” Furry said as he walked into the room, watching as Steve punched his current punching bag continuously. A thin layer of sweat forming, he stopped and grabbed the bag, forcing it to stay still as he wiped his forehead with a towel.
“If I go get a drink, will you stop pestering me?” Steve asked in an exhausted tone. Nick and Phil had been constantly telling him he needed to go out. To try and find his soulmate now that they knew he still had one.
Groaning as Nick nodded smugly, he tossed the towel on the table, heading towards the showers to change before he left.
—————————————
“Y/N, we need you to make a run for us. We have run out of fuel here.” Your boss called out as she passed your desk setting a list of drinks down along with the company card. Looking over the list you marked whose drinks were who’s so you made sure to be careful of some.
Checking to see if Lauren or Kate wanted something you soon made your way to the small cafe down the road. Walking in you greeted the painter who had taken a seat right by the window and you were instantly met with the warm air and the smells of fresh baked desserts and coffee.
Seeing your favorite barista Liv, wave you over, you handed her the list, laughing when she gave you a look of disbelief before turning around and starting the drinks with the help of Bella, your other favorite barista.
Once you were sure they had the order covered, you brought your attention to your phone, checking all your emails and sending Kate a message letting her know you were going to need help.
Hearing a commotion behind you, you quickly turned around, resulting in having a cold wet hand on your face. Pulling your head back, you brought your hand to your face, gently touching it. When you looked at your fingers, you sighed as you saw it was paint.
The painter who you had said hello to when you had come in had spilt his coffee and was on his way to get another one when he tripped.
Tossing your head back, you didn’t pay any attention to the gasps around you. Looking over at Liv you furrowed your eye brows when she motioned behind you.
Turning around, your hands flew to your mouth as you saw a tall blonde man standing behind you, a handprint just like yours smeared across your face.
The man walked towards you, an emotion in his eyes that you couldn’t place. As he stood in front of you, you gasped at what you realized. Steve Rogers, National hero, and an incredibly old man was indeed, your soulmate.
Clearing his throat, you looked up to see Steve looking at you a small smile on his face. Something tells you he just said something and caught you staring at him. You made a noise in the back of your throat, obvious that you hadn’t heard him.
Shaking his head he held his hand out “Steve Rogers. Pleased to meet you.” He said charmingly.
Not taking his hand, you quickly through your arms around him “I thought you didn’t exist.” You said into his chest quietly. After you got that out of your system, you grabbed his hand.
“Y/N Y/L/N. Please to meet you, Soulmate”
