Hey gang. It’s with a heavy heart that I let you know that I’ve decided to shut down the Junco's Pub live stream.

The Junco's Pub Karaoke event at The Ship tonight will be the final hurrah for the stream, at least in its current form.

While it hasn’t appeared at the pub, the recent frounce scare on the east coast of Newfoundland has taken the fun out of feeding wild birds.

I encourage other folks to listen to the advice of the experts like Bill Montevecchi and Laura Rogers and take the feeders down — at the very least until winter each year. And even in winter, try to only use feeders as an emergency support during cold snaps or bad weather.

Frounce in my Pigeons

Yesterday morning I found one of my pigeons had passed away. It had been a warm day so I though perhaps it was from heat. I added more shade to the enclosure, but this morning I found another one had passed  away. I also noticed a couple of the live ones were sneezing. So I grabbed a sneezy one and looked down its throat and noticed some cheesy, plaque-looking material. My thoughts immediately went to frounce, a disease called by the protozoan trichomoniasis gallinae. I decided to do an autopsy on the one that died, and sure enough, it had the same substance all down its throat and esophagus. I purchased some frounce treatment to put in their water so hopefully I can clear up the outbreak before it takes any more lives. Hang in there, pigeons. No more dying on me
