Winter Sunrise Over Willapa Bay, Tokeland, Washington, 032019

Tokeland is a small community in Pacific County off the Washington state coast at the intersection of the Pacific Ocean and Willapa Bay. Fishing and oysters are still an essential aspect of the community which features an active harbor where you can buy fresh seafood right from the boats.

Like many communities, there was once more commercial activity in times past. Luckily, many of the remnants of that history remain to this day.

I had driven past this old set of pilings from an old dock along the shores of Tokeland many times and even taken a few photos that I processed as black and white, however never when I had ideal lighting conditions for landscape photography.

On this March morning, the atmospeheric conditions were ideal, and I headed off to Tokeland. I was able to capture the rising sun over Willapa Bay, with cloud formations in the sky, with the water and the old pilings providing a foreground element to add depth to the photo.
