Alexandra had become fairly acquainted with a few regulars at the bookstore, one of them being Arielle. She hadn’t been a big book person in the past, but she had a bit of free time at work, and she’d started reading in those moments. When Arielle asked her for recommendations, she found she actually had a few, which was quite a relief. As she saw the woman approaching through the glass, she went to gather a few of the books to hand over to her. “Have you read The Joy Luck Club?” she asked as the other entered. “It’s one of my mom’s favorite books. I thought you might like it. I also have All My Mother’s Lovers, and How Much of These Hills Is Gold. You can take them all, or just pick one.”
