she’s trying so hard to hold it together . but it’s not exactly the easiest situation to be in , is it ? she does consider herself lucky to be included as an honorary member of kylie’s family . it means she gets permission to visit her best friend as she pleases . but standing there in the hospital room amongst kylie’s relatives as they wait for any sign of her waking up is heart wrenching . there’s never been a more anticipated moment . and the longer it takes for kylie to be responsive , the more anxious she gets . so her visits are frequent but short . as much as she wants to be there for the other , she’s overcome with this overwhelming desire to run the longer she sits there and waits for something she’s a afraid might not ever come . she can’t handle it . so she’s about to high tail it out of the tense situation . storming through the hallways and out the double doors that lead to the waiting room when she notices a familiar face . the face of the only person who she feels like she can relate to right now . and her feet drag her to him faster than her brain can locate the nearest exit . “gio ,” her hoarse voice cracks . she hadn’t even realized she’d been crying . it’s a rarity to see her eyes puffy and cheeks damp , but if there were ever a situation to break down her walls and have her acting out of character-- it’s this . she takes in his disposition like she can’t believe he’s really there ( though she really shouldn’t be surprised ) and notices his new accessories . seeing him with the cast and crutches for the first time since the incident made his injury and the possibility of him never playing hockey again feel so much more real that a teeny tiny part of her heart aches for her old friend . however , she still somehow finds it appropriate to make this comment as some sort of greeting : “you look like shit . what are you doing out here ?”
