L'Enfant: Game #1

L'Enfant was doing really well, and we were gellin’ like Magellan and all that. But then we decided to lay the ball at the foot of the other team right at the top of the box, just to see what would happen, because we like to experiment. And lo and behold, they scored! 

But like I said, we like to experiment. We like to emulate scientists. So we decided to lay the ball at the foot of the other team again and BAM, and the outcome was the same. Third trial, same result. After three goals, in like five stinking minutes, we were stunned. We asked,

Or is this just Fantasea?

So then Scott T. got all angry at all of the goals and all of the inexcusable puns coming from the team manager while he sat their picking turf pellets out of his cleats and he and wanted to go all 

But instead he just scored a pretty impressive goal, and saved us from a shutout, and everyone went over to Lou’s to have a beverage and prognosticate on whether United States would beat Peru. The victory was made all the more sweeter by the team’s unbridled support for those impacted by the Orlando attack, which made this one of our favorite non-animated images of the week:

Annie's: Game 1

The Deadly “Verdes” of Annie’s kicked off the season against crosstown local food shoppe Extreme Pizza.We all know those 6:30 games can be a pain to get to on time. And with half he team still showing up learning each others names and how to effectively spring an offside trap, Extreme kicked us in the teeth with an early, well taken goal inside of the 1st five mins. :: Hat Tips Parker::

Annie’s leaders Leslie Jessie and the Grand Viceroy of GIFs, Lord T.M Carter III (aka Tarik) opted to start with a swashbuckling attack minded formation. But with Extreme looking more and more dangerous on the counter, they recognized the danger, and got the team to focus in on a more defensive and fundamentally sound approach. Half time saw us down 1-0

Annie’s started strong in the 2nd half. Along with  formation switch, people learning each other's tendencies and, perhaps more importantly everyone’s names, we were able to get our mojo working and started dominating.

You guys we played SO much better the 2nd half, it was awesome! We tested the goalkeeper, and had some key shots that were nearly turned into goal. Annie’s was unlucky not to tie, but  sadly we just up n  ran outta time. Final score 1-0. 

Then we went to Lou’s to share drinks and a few laughs. Life was good! Next up is Denizens and hopefully we can come away with a W, (or at the very least some of their sponsor’s delicious delicious beer).

GBG was so close...

…and yet so far. A well fought 1-0 loss.

But I a pretty sure we had the most fun!

SHAREPOWER 1 - Airedale 1

This game had a theme. John Whitfield controlled the pulse of the game from midfield while Briana McClain stayed open up top. The athleticism of the pairing created several excellent scoring opportunities. The pair connected with a firm strike to goal only to see it bounce wide from the left post.

Airedale kept its fight, countered, and earned the first goal of the game.

Sharepower regrouped and Gregor Kelsey tied the match after a beautiful cross from Briana.   

Keeper Nick Carter and defenders Alex Straus, Sarah Helinek, and Kenneth Durril kept the containment fierce, so Airdale was scoreless for the remainder of the match.

Midfielders Daniel Larson, Joseph Payne, Laurelyn Foderaro, and Josh Richards kept the attacks coming. Injured teammate Zach Straus added emotional support. In total, the showing was strong and established a solid base to build from.
