Final Update on the Hanukkah Celebrating Cat Person
EVERYONE Literally EVERYONE I have talked to has told me they think what this person is doing is wrong, insensitive, and a fucking disgrace!
Here is what was agreed upon though and it makes a small amount of sense:
First, let's get everyone caught up. I know someone who claims they have a Jewish cat, now this person is a very very devout Christian and does not believe nor do they understand anything about Judaism. Still with this in mind they have bought their cat a menorah and made them a yamaka and are posting pictures about this cat celebrating Hanukkah. They said they did this because the previous owners of the cat are Jewish and so that makes the cat Jewish... This person has been asked by many people to stop doing this because they are making a mockery of Hanukkah and it's insensitive.
So I've been asking around and the main agreement people can come to is this: She knows literally nothing about Judaism, Hanukkah, or why it is celebrated, and posting pictures about it is a very dry, tasteless attempt for people to think she is not antisemitic but in doing so makes herself antisemitic. Most of the issue seems to be the fact this person posted about it. If they decided to just do it themselves and use it as a teaching moment for their children that would be one thing, but this is entirely their attempt at profiting off of the Jewish faith in a twisted social media scheme. The person makes no attempt to learn about Hanukkah and if they honestly believed what they were doing was for the good of faith they wouldn't be so quick to block anyone who speaks out against them.
Well, I'm glad I got that discussion out of the way, I swear I can't with this social media ploy. Honestly what I think is that there was only an issue when they tried to put themselves up on a pedestal and made jokes about it. I mean fuck those pictures this person posted!
Sorry, this is the end of this crazy relative story, hope you enjoyed it and I hope you know this person and can call them out of their insensitivity. So sorry to everyone who has to deal with weird relatives over the holidays, it's a special kind of crazy that comes out this time of year.
