Stuff and things
Projects - So, I finished my January Harry Potter Knit Crochet House Cup stuff on Ravelry, and Iām trying to get a couple quick hats in for the spouse and the daughter before The February round starts, but, well..I donāt knit that fast.Ā
The Thing has been dismantled, it was in time out in the Mom Cave for a bit, but now itās awaiting sockdom.
Going to my first NFL game tomorrow. AFC championship in Denver, should be an adventure.Ā
Iāve lately been obsessed with Lord of the Rings Online. I canāt seem to quest enough, and I run 3 characters. Yep, nerdom personified, lol
Knit-geek-dom
So tonight I am having a girls night with a friend..we are going to the local new yarn store for knitting and chatting with other craft-geeks....I am so excited!!!Ā
The Thing and such, day 1
So, just so weāre clear.....I am on the Reboot with Joe juice diet. Iāve lost about 15lbs doing it. Yay me, I like it. However. Trying to lose another 10lbs is not easy when Dickeyās BBQ is calling my name. Just sayin.
So knitting project on the needles currently. A couple weeks ago a friend of mine from SecondLife came to see me, and we went to my favorite yarn store. Friend bought 2 skeins of this absolutely soft, undyed alpaca yarn from Cascade yarns. Eco something, I forget the exact name, all I know is itās lovely to pet. Friend saysĀ āMake me something prettyā. Friend is male, and VERY straight, lol. So I am knitting him a Thing. Well, I started calling it the Thing. Itās the honey stitch cowl pattern on Ravelry, with the lime green yarn in the picture? Ask Google, Google knows everything. Anyways, Iāve casted on, Iām in the middle of the second repeat, so roughly 16 rows in, and itās going to be longer than a cowl, but not as long as an infinity scarf, thus the name Thing. Itās soft. It splits easily. It...pills? Gets random fuzzies on the working yarn as I knit it. Itās frustrating. But itās lovely, and I like it. I like the needles that itās on as well. Knitterās Pride fixed circulars (I have an old set of knit picks interchangeables, never again will I purchase interchangeables. EVER. Hatred for them.) they are presumably wooden, size 8, and I just love the way they feel, the way they knit. Ā So yea.
I have a bunch of fabric in the Mom Cave (yes, I have a Mom Cave. AKA the craft room that only Mom goes into, and even the dogs get kicked out of) and a bunch of patterns as a result of the Black Friday JoAnn sale. Iām a sucker for a good sale, and great coupons. I have flannel and fleece and children who ask me regularlyĀ āMama can you make me ---?ā with large soulful eyes and Dr. Pepper in hand. My children know the best way to bribe Mama is to bring Dr. Pepper when you ask for what you want. So maybe over Christmas I will kill some of that stack of fabric. Maybe.
Currently reading 2 books....Jim Butcherās Turn Coat, part of the Harry Dresden Files. Love that series. Good stuff all around, really. The other book is John Normanās Gorean Saga, book......um.....Raiders of Gor. What can I say, itās a Gorean Saga book, which means itās not especially well written, and I canāt stand Tarl Cabot (the main character for the first 8 books of the 31 books series), but damn if I donāt love the world of Gor. Itās a tad dry, and I confess, Harry Dresden has taken center stage. Iāll finish Raiders sometime soon.
I wanna knit fingerless gloves that Iāve had the yarn and pattern for for a year. And I wanna make the Baa-ble hat (ask Google) and I wanna knit the Force Awakens hat. Iām a Star Wars nerd, and happily so.
Matter of fact as soon as I post this, I am off to the movies to see the new one.
Woefully inadequate
So, Iām a mom. A wife. An employee (of the Federal Government, ironically). I am also a crafter. I knit, I sew, I crochet, and when possible, I make jewelry.Ā
My job is mundane (= mindless) enough that I listen Ā to podcasts in the background while I work. I do data entry, so itās not like itās rocket science and I have to have my brain focused completely on what I am doing.Ā
Recently I started listening to The Knit Girllls. Two bestys that knit, read, and craft. Every episode, they discuss what is currently on their needles, or in progress in other crafts. They discuss many projects that they have going, that theyāve completed. While being mothers, wives, and employees.
I feel so unworthy as a crafter. I tend to only take on one project at the time. These women are cranking out socks, shawls and other involved projects in the time frames that rank up there with speed knitters, I swear. Personally, I am not a speed knitter. I can crochet pretty quick, but then again, Iāve been doing that for 30 years (Iām over 35 for anyone trying to guess my age), so Iāve pretty well got the technique down. Knitting, Iāve been doing for about 12 years, and Iām not a fast knitter. I think crochet ruined my speed, honestly, because my hands get needles and yarn in them, and they try to assume the position of crochet rather than knitting. Even though I knit more than I crochet nowadays. Howās that for muscle memory?Ā
I can say, however, that in the middle of this feeling of inadequacy in crafting, I think I have a handle on them in the reading department. I canāt do audiobooks, just not my style, but I have read about 2 of the books they are reading and discussing, so I do feel good there. My concession to the modern technological world in terms of reading is a Kindle Fire. It was a gift from my husband because he got tired of my travelling with a number of books along with me. I love my Kindle. It is rarely outside of armsā distance from me.Ā
So Iāve decided that I am going to start posting my projects. WHat Iām reading, etc. This ought to be fun. As though my feed isnāt a hodge-podge enough, letās add this to it, lol.

Electric Blue Yeti- Created in Montreal 2015
I knit a new Yeti, and this time heās got a nice tuft of blue hair on his head. he is a bit of a show off and loves to play hide and seek. I cannot wait to receive my bag of faux fur scraps from Love and a Sandwhich so I can have new hair colors to use!
Schneeeule- Created in Montreal December 2014
Knit this little owlet as a commission for a friend. Since the snow outside was nice and fluffy and it wasn't too cold, we had a mini photo shoot and then made a tiny snowman.
Love Owl
I knit and sewed together this little guy in just a day! Which for me is pretty miraculous! I'm loving making custom made beaks for my little creatures out of Fimo (why didn't I think of that before?)
