Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Awareness Day and I was nominated by my dear friend, Andra Kalnins, to post my #4forstageiv. I’ve been living with Stage IV MBC for a little over four (4) years and the cancer in my body JUST mutated yet again so that I have to change my treatment. I literally found out on Monday and met with my doctor yesterday. This experience I’m in the middle of is called progression. The cancer progresses and mutates around everything we have to keep it at bay. For those of us living with #mbc, it only a matter of when those mutations end our lives. #4forstageiv is a Living Beyond Breast Cancer campaign that raises awareness and gives insight into the lived experience of MBC. 4 words to describe my experience are 1. LEGACY; 2. LOVE; 3. LONELINESS; and 4. GRIT #LivingBeyondBreastCancer #stage4needsmore #FundTheResearch #metastaticbreastcancer Legacy — I am building a legacy for my boys, for my extended family and for those who come after. By my words, my actions and my example, I teach others. Love — it is the highest and best goal, to love others. Loneliness — this living with #mbc is a lonely experience. Mitigated, yes, by connection with others but a solitary endeavor regardless. Grit — to keep going every day takes all I have. I nominate Brooke Jones Alicia M Kresack Melinda Feola-Mahar and Christi Avery to share their #4forStageIV for Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. @livingbeyondbc @andrakalnins (at Miami, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CU-03PXl_z3/?utm_medium=tumblr
