I illustrated the Cantharellus lilacinus a short while ago. It's a fungus that is kind of hard to find information on. I had two references photos from a scientific paper to base my illustration on, having never seen it in the field. Until a trip deep into Toolangi forest presented me with one solitary mushroom. It's almost exclusively found in the Central Highlands of Victoria and very little is known about its conservation status. It IS edible but I didn't want to risk potentially eating the last of this species to satisfy a general culinary curiosity. So I let it be with the hope that it might respawn somewhere else in this incredible forest.
