365 DC Comics Heroes & Villains Paper Cut-Outs
The hero known as Forager heralds from asociety of humanoid bugs living in colonies beneath the surface of the planet New Genesis. Often looked down upon by the haughty New Gods of Supertown, the ‘bugs’ are considered something of a lower class and are frequent target of bigotry. Although Forager was raised among the bugs, he is actually a New God who through circumstances was adopted into the subterranean community of the Insect Legion.
Forager proves himself to be a valiant hero and worthy ally against the forces of Apokolips. He becomes his people’s champion and provides Orion and Lightray invaluable aid in the defeat of the villainous Mantis. Despite his heroic deeds, the irascible Orion continues to treat Forager with contempt, seeing him as merely a lowly bug.
Later Forager joins a force of heroes seeking to prevent Darkseid’s efforts to wield the dreaded Anti-Life Equation. Forager sacrificed himself so to save the Earth and destroy the Anti-Life entity. Afterwards, Orion was ordered by Highfather to return Forager's body to the Insect Legion. Orion does as he is told and finds that he has come to respect and admire both Forager and his people.
Forager was later resurrected by The Sandman and journeyed through the realm of dreams so to return to the world of the living.
The hero has appeared in the animated series Justice League Unlimited voiced by actor Corey Burton. Another (decidedly more insect-like) version of Forager also appeared in the Young Justice animated series voiced by actor Jason Spisak.
Forager first appeared in the pages of New Gods Vol. 1 #9 (1972)
