Hi, it's only the 3rd week of school (we start in June) and I've already lost my motivation. I also don't have any sort of outlet for my frustrations. I find it difficult to go to day to day lives. I try to do my hobbies but every time I think of doing them, I remember all the problems I have at school. I can't talk to anyone about it cuz they'll probably just make it worse. I absolutely have nothing I'd look forward to, except for sleep. Help? -fuszymunch
Hi fuszymunch, it’s good to hear from you and thank you for sending this in. I hope I can help and give you some advice/guidance.
School can be stressful, and this can lead to us losing our motivation which is really frustrating - especially if we want to do well! It’s also a shame to hear that you feel you can’t talk to anyone, as we are always here and willing to listen. Your school should have a counsellor or someone who you can talk to regarding how you’re feeling and coping; this is their job and I assure you they would be delighted to help and hear from you instead of you suffering in silence. I’m not too sure on rules and regulations, but I don’t think they can tell anyone what you say to them unless they believe you are in danger (you will definitely need to check this, however).
If you do not feel comfortable in talking to someone at school, have a think about who you would feel comfortable talking to. The right person will listen and try help, and we are more than happy to try guide you and talk to you if needed. If you don’t feel as if talking to someone is an option, how about writing down your worries outside of school hours? Take some time to bullet point things that make you feel as if you want to sleep all the time. Bottling things up is unhealthy and can cause a lot of issues, and we would hate for anything to happen to you. This is why finding out how to cope with feeling like this is valid and important.
We have a page about school and staying calm/getting a good nights sleep which will contribute to you feeling a lot more awake at school which you can check out here. It may not be the root to your issues, but learning how to cope with simple things like getting a good nights sleep and looking after yourself can improve how you feel on a day to day basis.
An outlet for your frustrations can perhaps be tied in with hobbies - do you think you could try out some new activities in your area and see how they may help? Volunteering could help boost your motivation and make you feel as if you’re doing good - which you are! How do you feel about checking out what’s available to do in your area or even clubs after school?
I have an idea which you’re more than welcome to try out, and it may lead to you feeling more in control of your thoughts and how they arise. Whenever you have a bad thought about problems or issues, challenge your brain to not think of those. If you feel as if trying to work to a solution in your mind will let the thought pass, try that out. If not, think it, accept the thought and move on with the thing you’re doing. Later you can write it down or try and work it out, visually or through words.
We are always here to listen and to talk to, and please don’t ever feel as if you’re alone. I believe in you and I believe you can catch that motivation back. Trying new things and being spontaneous is one of the ways forward, and please don’t hesitate to get back in contact with us if you want more information/help.
All the best,
Rosie :)
