Mutual pining and accidental eavesdropping for kylux?
[CW: see tags for triggers]
“Look, Kylo… Sorry Mr Ren,” Dopheld corrected himself for the eighth time that morning- it was hard to treat your ex like your boss when he was acting like a love sick but very stupid puppy. “I’m running out of excuses to get you and Mr Hux in the same suite for conferences, you know he hates sharing and he knows the company can afford totally separate rooms because he’s the CFO. It’s literally his job. Please, I am begging you, just say something already!”
——
“I really don’t want to go to this conference ‘Pheld,” Hux grumbled.
“Because you have to share a suite?” Dopheld asked in what he hoped was a subtle bit of digging. He could just see Kylo’s distinctive shadow loitering on the other side of the glass wall of the office.
Hux frowned in confusion. Maybe that was too subtle?
“No, I don’t mind that, you know I don’t. The views not bad,” he added that part almost too quietly for anyone outside to hear. “It’s just… it’s a big anniversary this year, I don’t like being away from home.”
From the door slamming at the end of the corridor Kylo had definitely heard that part.
——-Kylo was a grown man and if he wanted to sulk on the balcony of his bedroom then he would. He fucking hated going to conferences- Hux was the only reason he bothered to go to these things and now he knew that Hux was married there really wasn’t any point any more. Who the hell managed to keep something like that secret for so long anyway?
On the other side of the divider Hux’ balcony door slide open, so Kylo sank a little further back into the shade. It was a bit weird that a shared suite would have dividers between the balconies but the architect had probably left them in for the aesthetic. Usually the pissed Kylo off because they blocked his view of Hux and his morning ritual of drinking coffee in his robe, but today it was a relief.
He heard the sound of a ringing phone. Hux must be calling someone, he always had his speakers turned up too high. Oh no. If it was their anniversary was he going to have to listen to Hux be all lovey-dovey with some mystery woman?
Well, his own balcony door was closed so he couldn’t sneak off without giving himself away.
“Hi! This Mara Jade, I’m afraid you just missed me so leave a message and I’ll call you right back!”
Kylo could almost swear that Hux made a weird noise that might have been a sob. Huh?
“Hi mom.” Oh. “I swear every time I hear that message I think you really will call me back. I can’t believe it’s been ten years already.” Oh. Oh no. “I bet your voicemail is really full by now. I’m at a conference again, with that hot guy Kylo again. I used to think he fancied me but now I think he’s just making me do these things to annoy me.” Hux laughed in a teary kind of way. “True love you’d say haha…”
