personally, i don’t like it when someone says “oh don’t learn that language bc it’s useless. they only speak it in one country, you should learn *insert on with a lot of speakers internationally* instead!”
isn’t the fact that someone speaks that language enough? is it so “useless” to learn about a lesser known country’s history and culture?
to me, there’s no such thing as a “useless language”

My name is Lara (any pronouns), I'm a 23 year old trying to get into a physiotherapy program at uni, but this blog is about my language learning journey.
I'm restarting my language learning journey. I used to speak Italian in Kindergarten, and I studied German for a few years. I sadly forgot most of those two :(
I'm starting Czech from absolute zero.
I want to document my journey to fluency.

one of my favorite influencers started speaking and doing content in her native language… looks like we’re learning Indonesian folks
for 2026, i need to put a hell of a lot more effort into my korean studies. bc guess what: i live in korea now! as right now its been two months and im feeling pretty good about the move and settling in, but i would be a lot more comfortable and confident if my language skills were better.
of course i’ll still learn japanese and indonesian in the background (bc i love torturing myself) but korean is the priority!

3 years ago i took the level test on the TTMIK website and was level 2!!
but now i took it again and i got level 5!! i know it’s not a good measure of how much korean i actually know, but it’s good see that i’ve actually made progress!!
also i might subscribe to them again… they have some really good stuff up there.
today’s accomplishment:
i translated 70% of this song by myself!!
now did my translation make sense?? no not at all BUT I DID IT!!
if you’re a kpop stan learning korean, do you ever find a word from a video you watched and then you’re like “oh! that’s what they were saying!”
i just learned the word for waterfall is 폭포! so that one video of taehyung at niagara falls immediately came into my brain!! now i can’t stop laughing 😂
