dawg... i'm 40.

at iFC this year, i posted on my personal FB that i didn't know how i was supposed to do THREE DAYS of bangin' sets. the days of getting schwasted and losing my shit backstage to the sickest drops are over. gimme DJ streams with my comfy headphones and my plänty edibles these days. but i do occasionally love a live event, and i'm still excited to play them, even if i feel out of place at my age.

of course, it helps that the con scene is a cycle of drama, and it also helps that mainstream mainstage EDM is a mush of boring ideas. the big names of a decade past are all on a race to the bottom; boring basslines, samey percussion design, Adam Beyer synth presets. future rave is a mush of EDM's most unexciting ideas, and it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon.

so this track is really a testament to Savant's abilities. of course, it also helps that this track's lyrical content resonates so strongly with me. the tone of the song is a very personal one, and it's wrapped in a veneer of a genre i don't particularly like. which makes it feel even more tied to its overarching theme. who wants to rave anymore? it doesn't seem like the people listening to this kind of music even want to engage with it, even if they could. they just want to be seen there.

the scene will survive. it has before. and there's too much interesting stuff going on in the underground, as it always has. and honestly... that's where you'll catch me too. even when i turn 50, you'll see my Nick At Nite ass enjoying a tallboy of Liquid Death and pumping my fist.
