considering the descriptions in the fever code it makes sense that newt probably got infected with the flare after the scorch trials, probably in those weeks they spend separated from each other. the way his mental state was rapidly decreasing in the few days/hours they were escapting WICKED, especially once newt went to the crank palace, fits to how the people became cranks in the fever code. this makes the whole even more depressing because it would mean newt wasn't infected in tmr/tst times and technically could have never been infected if he isn't actively getting attacked by a crank or gets it pumped into him or otherwise exposed to the virus. conclusion: there has been a possibility of avoiding the whole p.260 thing. fuck my life, that makes it even more tragic
