@fxturekxng sent: He's been extremely quiet lately mostly resting on the bed gazing at a picture of Garrett and V on the nightstand nearby. Garrett had been around, which Simba was absolutely fine with, but he also missed V. A lot. Curling up into a golden ball, the cub eventually fell asleep wondering in his subconscious when the warlock would be coming home so life could be normal again.

In this life, little was normal. A routine home life was more a luxury than a standard for a man of V’s occupation. He had demons to clear off the streets and money to make doing it, and if that meant pulling him away from his only sanctuary for hours or days at a time, then so it had to be. There was no other way about it. Knowing, now, that he’d had a growing lion cub to tend to as if he’d had a child of his own opened his eyes to the challenges of parenthood. Suddenly, he was in his mother’s shoes: working his fingers to the bone to keep a roof over his precious made-family’s heads. He had certainly earned a newfound appreciation for the role his mother played, the work she’d done, and how difficult she’d had it when V was so young a child himself. He’d by no means compare himself to her, especially not when he had help. The difference between them was that V wasn’t alone in the domestic effort for he’d had a mate on which to rely, a mate who would work with him, cover for him, and work twice as hard as V’d known himself to. And as much as the pair would accomplish together, that did not take away the fact that little Simba still had a void to deal with when either one of his human-fleshed father figures would simply not be there at all times. V felt for the lion. He always had and always would.

He’d felt emptiness, too, when his mother would leave for work.

It inspired a smile when eyes landed on a snoozing roll of golden fur. Bare feet were quiet to step beside the bed. He might have just come in through the door, Griffon and Shadow peeling right off to collapse over the sofa, but he’d not waste his time with showers or grooming when he had more pressing matters to see to. V hadn’t been made a horrible mess, but...he’d been through rough enough situations while he’d been away. One solitary finger would caress the spot between Simba’s ears, tender and mindful as he’d ever been. “Simba,” he whispered fondly, tiredly, hoping to stir him awake without startling him. “Simba. Come on, guess who’s home.”

Oh? Well, it didn’t quite surprise him that this little cub could speak. He’d encountered stranger things around Neverland. What was more interesting was that the little animal thought he could threaten an entire pirate crew. Finally descending from his station on the upper deck, Hook leaned close, the cold iron hook he bore in place of his left hand now tilting the cub’s chin upward.

“There are rules aboard my ship, and rules must be obeyed. Not just by the crew, but by all who come aboard, no matter how brief the visit.” Upon his shoulder, Jewel gave an indignant squawk in agreement, ruffling her feathers a bit as she backed up her captain’s words. Stepping back again, the captain now gestured his hook toward the recent haul of large, shimmering fish.

“If you want to eat, you must earn it. No one here gets anything for free.” He stated firmly. “You tried to steal from me and my men, and that isn’t something I take lightly.. Do you understand..? Or do I need to further emphasize the point?” And of course, he brandished his hook again, to emphasize his meaning, and to indicate to this.. child, that he wasn’t afraid to give out proper punishment.

“Yeah, I’m sure of it! C’mon!” the lion cub called back with a bounce in his step as he continued on. He was finally visiting home after being away for so long, and now, he’d be able to James his future kingdom, just like the Commodore had been able to show him most of the oceans. “When we get back to the ship, where are we gonna go next? On another adventure? Fight some more pirates? Look for treasure?”

He felt his eyes well at the question. Lips parted to correct the lion. To explain that there would be no more adventures for the two of them once he had safely returned the lion to the pride lands. But he didn’t have the heart to at the moment, he thought this would be easier than it has been... he’s going to miss the little lion , despite all the trouble he has been. “ I’m ah.. not sure.. “ he swallowed down the sadness while two giraffes looked at him funny.

the house is quiet, unusual considering simba and namine can usually be found playing in the living room, laughter and yelling away together. but today, it’s silent. namine’s sleeping in her room. axel smiles faintly, she must’ve tuckered herself out this morning and gone to take a nap.

but simba... axel hasn’t seen him in a while. an hour at least and that’s definitely unusual. the lion cub is bursting with energy most of the time, always wanting to show axel something that namine helped him make or just how far he can leap now. but there’s nothing.

not a peep from anyone in the house and axel doesn’t like it. he doesn’t like silence -- never has.

he opens the door to his room, brow raised when he finds the little lion cub on the bed -- grimmjow’s side to be exact. it’s been a month now since they’d last heard anything from the arrancar and though he’s trying to keep up a happy facade for the sake of simba and namine, axel’s starting to think that they both know something’s wrong.

“ -- oi, kiddo. whatcha doin’ in here? should be outside playin’. “
