Graphic tutorial!
So I was asked to do a tutorial of the second panel of this graphic! I must warn you that a) Iām not an expert in photoshop (I basically just mix stuff together until I like the result) and b) Iāve never made a tutorial before, so Iāll try my best to explain how I did this! Ā
1. Open photoshop and open the image you want to use (Iām gonna use the same one from the graphic for this).Ā
2. Cut the image from its background. I usually use the selection tool because itās the easiest way (here are some tutorials if you donāt know how to do it x x)
3. Now add a white background, make the picture b&w (there are a few ways of doing this, but the easiest for me is just going to layer >Ā new adjustment layer > black & white). Set the image to hard light. It should look something like this:
I also added a Levels layer (layer> new adjustment layer > Levels) with these settings (you can choose your own settings tho, it depends on the picture):
4. Merge all the layers (right click > merge visible). Open a new canvas and set it to 1000x800 (you can set it to any other size, but for me this one looks good). Drag your picture to the new canvas. You can do this at the beggining as well, I just forget all the time.
5. Pick a watercolor brush (you can download the pack I used here), choose the color white and paint over the lower part of the picture, so that the line doesnāt look so straight (it should look like this)
6. Create a new blank layer. Pick another watercolor brush, set it to a soft color and click over the picture. Do it as many times as you wish, or change the brush to get the effect you want. Add a layer mask and choose a black brush to delete any parts that you donāt want. Set this layer to multiply
7. Layer > New fill layer > solid color. Ā Set the color to a slightly darker one than the watercolour brush one. (this layer should be directly on top of the last one) Right click on the layer > create clipping mask and set this layer to screen.
8. Download a flower texture pack (or any other thing, I chose flowers because they look really nice). I used this pack. Now open one of the textures and set it over your picture (to place it directly in your picture go to file > place). Set this layer to color burn, create a layer mask and pick a black brush to delete anything you donāt want. Do this with as many textures as you want until you like the result. It should look something like this:
9. To add the āconstellationā, just create like four or five dots and join them with lines (pressĀ āshiftā to make the lines go straight).
10. If you donāt like how it looks, so you can add as many effects as you want until youāre happy with your result. I added a vibrance layer and set the saturation to -68, but it depends on the picture you choose. I also added a gradient map with the colors black and purple (you can choose another color) and set the layer to overlay. This is how it looks now:
11. Finally, you can add a texture to finish the graphic (this is also optional, of course). I used this one. (I set the layer to multiply and with 47% oppacity).
And the final result!
I hope you found this useful, and if you have any questions please donāt hesitate to send me an ask!Ā
