Okay, so I couldn’t upload this yesterday, but the spirit is still the same
Ladies and gentlemen of all ages, it is Sunday, and you know what that means:
Today we’ll be talking about the Fiat Punto GT! Wait... that can’t be right. You mean Fiat made planes? I think you’ve got that wrong, now... oh, it IS true! Damn, italians did step up their game. Either way, let’s talk about the Fiat G.91.
This fat, subsonic, piece of italian engineering sure has some history into himself. It was developed in the interest of NATO’s Light Weight Strike Figther role, to be easy to operate and mantain, as well as cheap and independent from ground support. It’s development had to be very quick as the designs were required after two months of the start of the competition. It managed to get the second place in the competition and soon a prototype was built to begin tests.
During these tests the plane encountered several stability problems, and the first prototype was lost. After several months of testing, the plane was declared the winner.
The aircraft was considered by several nations for CAS role, but it only served in the German, Italian and Portuguese Air Forces, having only combat operational history in the last, during the Portuguese Colonial Wars.
