Happy Birthday, Ga-tan! (6/24)
Web Novel Chapters 116 + 117 spoilers
Under the cut.
According to the Japanese Wiki, Ga-tan’s hometown is in a place called Northern Mausoleum Rus (北陵ルーシ). It’s hard to tell if Rus is supposed to be just a name or not, but it’s also the official Japanese term for the Rus, which takes on a variety of meanings but boil down to people or states in the East Slavic region.
KR also has other Russian summons (in volume 9 he summons a Kikimora, a house spirit with predominantly East Slavic origins), so it’s highly likely that he’s traveled to Russia prior to the Catastrophe. Even after the Catastrophe, the Go East manga mentions that he traveled up to Russia in his Bai Ze body, so that’s likely accurate to the light novels.
So basically what I’m saying is that we have a Russian red dragon in the story. (Interestingly, as a contracted summon, it seems that Ga-tan is known as a Red Dragon, not as a Garnet Dragon.)
Also, Ga-tan really deserves to be in Fire Emblem. She’s basically a manakete, and she likes waking up her spouse summoner roughly! Enough to break his ribs and make him scream in pain! IntSys pls fund LHxFE as your next Fire Embull crossover.
The “Crimson Princess,” Raid Boss monster Garnet Dragon (Ga-tan)
Update
I realized that I forgot to mention on my Go! East! masterpost (wherever that is on my blog) that in the ending of volume 9, KR drank dragon’s blood so that he could stay in the game till the end. It was probably Ga-tan’s (that little girl next to him in the final episode), but I’ve yet to figure out how exactly that’s supposed to give him a power-up.
Heya. What is your opinion on K.R's overskill, Crimson Contract? For the most part, most skills, classes, and abilities have been reasonable in power and usefulness (relatively speaking), but I find K.R's overskill to be overboard. He has a raid monster as a summon... The same type of monster you'd need 24 people to take down. Does this not make K.R the most powerful character to date? What is your opinion on it?
Oh, the raid boss summon’s stats decrease dramatically once he forms a contract with it -- her power is reduced to that of a -rank (which is a third of a normal monster’s). In volume 9/episode 14, he actually cancels the contract because otherwise, Ga-tan wouldn’t have been able to take on the Black Dragon. She just chose to return to him to Yamato even after the contract’s nullification; I don’t know if they re-established a contract or if she’s just reduced herself to that humanoid form.
And as an aside, we’re not actually sure what rank Raid Boss Ga-tan is, so she could take anywhere from 24 to 96 Adventurers (properly equipped) to take down.
