"Give Me One More Shot At Life", ch. 2
The drive to Heather’s new school had been quite short, which was convenient, but it was Harry’s convincing to make her step out of the car that took him long.
“You’ll be fine,” he tried again, this time exasperatedly. “I’m sure you’ll make new friends there.”
“I'm scared, Daddy,” Heather whimpered. “What if they ask too many questions? What if they don’t like me? What if — Daddy, what if another attacker comes after me here?”
Harry’s jaw dropped. He was about to reassure her that everything was going to be fine, but his confidence failed him. It was so unfair that even a child must think about things like this, but of course Heather had every right to worry since she was the target and was almost taken away, not her father. Harry was a random nobody who happened to be getting in the way.
He clenched his teeth. This was their life from now on. There was no way for them to live without fear from this moment onward, and it frustrated him.
