Thought I’d share a non covid meme.
Whoever created this meme has zero respect for nihilism and hedonism, and misplaced hatred of the mentally ill, and that’s a damn shame.
Then so do their creators, because Chuck Palahniuk and Justin Roiland have flatly said outright that Tyler Durden and Rick Sanchez are not people to be emulated in any shape or fashion because they *are* the negative aspects of their own lives.
hey here have some alternatives to these jerkfaces
you want a nihilist? you want someone in constant existential despair, who believes everything he does is functionally meaningless?
bam. done
you want neurodivergence?
he’s worth idolizing
so’s she
so’s he
so’s he
heck, if you want mental illness, this guy canonically has schizophrenia and complex PTSD, and despite his…unique career choices, even he’s better than the Joker:
and you want hedonism? why aren’t you idolizing her?:
what i’m saying is, there are a lot of heroes we could be hanging out with if we could just kick our habit of adoring assholes
Funny how “mentally ill = violent villain” was suppsoed to be that person’s DEFENSE? like wtf
Van Dyke skips the “handover” at Schuttern, where French noblewomen, led by the Comtesse de Noailles, helped Marie Antoinette shed her Austrian clothing and replace it with French court attire. Coppola includes this ritual, which demonstrated that even Marie Antoinette’s body was no longer her own but the property of France. Mistaking the handover for a personal welcome, Marie Antoinette hugged the comtesse (played by Judy Davis in Marie Antoinette). As she does in the film, de Noailles stiffened at Marie Antoinette’s embrace, stressing the symbolic, public nature of the ceremony (Lever 18). Even though he is leery of almost every aspect of Marie Antoinette, Zevin acknowledges Coppola’s formalist eye when he says: “There is something painterly in [her] style” (33). A blend of composition and content is especially striking in the shot of Marie Antoinette exiting the handover pavilion. Centered, to show that forest surrounds it, the pavilion’s dark interior is lit, improbably, by a crystal chandelier. In this temporary outpost of Versailles, culture ignores nature. Symmetry signals Marie Antoinette’s entry into the pattern of the French court. A triumph of artifice, the new dauphine emerges and pauses, perfectly framed in the doorway, while guards stand at attention on each side of the draped enclosure. Marie Antoinette’s Austrian ladies, her playful dog, her hair ribbon, and her looser gown have been left behind, scraps of her little-girl identity. A curled and corseted confection, she has been processed into a sexy French fashion plate, fit to be seen and desired by the dauphin.

you wanna know something that fucks me up when i think about it. what really fucks me up. that the west coast of the us has different butter than the east coast. like it’s an entirely different shape. when i learned that my brain metaphorically exploded. something as fundamental and constant as butter is completely different based on whether you grew up in oregon or south carolina. where is the divide. why doesn’t anyone talk about this. oh fuck i’m thinking about the east/west butter divide again i gotta calm down
i’m from massachusetts. when i first learned that not only is the bottom butter common in the western part of the us, but it’s the only butter that some people know, i lost my goddamned mind. i had never even SEEN any butter than the top butter until i bought some at trader joe’s and was like what the goddamned hell is this. now every time i see tj’s butter in my fridge i have a minor exestential crisis. that first time i googled the history of butter. east coast butter is called elgins and west coast butter is called west coast stubbies. i need to stop talking about this because it makes me fall into a butter-fueled spiral if i think about it for too long
Jesus I wonder where the cut off point is?? I’ve lived in five midwestern states and I’ve only ever seen east coast butter and this is disturbing to me
Thank Christ, I moved to Seattle from Louisiana and have been so confused for a year now and it’s such a relief to know it’s not some weird fever dream
im from the uk and when i came to the eastern US and saw ur long butter it absolutely freaked my entire bean
Yeah as someone from Ireland the concept of a stick of butter messes with my head and my comprehension of recipes. Butter comes in 1 pound blocks. They’re marked in grams though because we use the metric system, but didn’t want to change the size and shape of our butter.
Kerrygold, btw, is not *especially good quality* Irish butter. It’s just butter. Supermarket own brand butter here is pretty much the same as Kerrygold. Kerrygold just marketed itself well!
people are saying everything is a love language nowadays. and they right. love is in everything u fucking geniuses

This is fascinating but also terrifying.
This is like one of those art house horror movies with symbolism I don’t understand except I understand what this is trying to convey perfectly holy crap
Sorry Aang, Zuko’s was cooler. Granted, that’s mostly because Zuko does things ten times more dramatically than everyone else.
Katara should really be more careful though.
This is so interesting to me. Zuko grabs Katara (rather than shoving her) as he runs past, goes into a roll (he lands first, absorbing the shock,) and finishes the roll shielding her from the debris without landing on top of her. The whole action is designed specifically to protect her (and to a lesser degree, himself) from as much damage as possible – from any source, including his own body.
Aang on the other hand, just frickin’ tackles her.
The difference between a battle-hardened veteran with years of combat training… and a regular (if agile) dude who really just wants to save her from death by boulder by any means necessary.
It’s some really brilliant, subtle acting. We already know that the animators on this show are amazing, but this is a really good example of why. Not just the flawless rendering of what the characters are doing, but the careful consideration of how they do it.
Without a doubt, though, the best part of this post was this masterpiece of a tag: #katara vs. rocks
#atla#I wonder how much this has to do with aang being an airbender too#like he literally just kind of throws himself at things a lot because like#he can fly#and generally use airbending to cushion impacts#whereas firebending by necessity probably involves a lot of ‘stop drop and roll’ technique#especially when involving a kid like zuko
Oh, that makes sense as well (And stopping, dropping, and roolling is what what we;re supposed to do if we’re caught on fire, so it makes sense that a firebender would know know this.
