Chapter 25: Back To Normal

(Now, the reaction crew and Crossover Characters walk through portals to their home dimensions, shouting farewells.)

MARINETTE: Bye! Thanks for everything! Come back anytime!

(The portals close. Marinette walks away with her friends.)

MARINETTE (V.O.): And so, things are back on track, the way they should be. I’m back with the people I can safely call my friends and family again, and I’m back in Françoise Dupont. Things have changed, of course. Chloé, Sabrina, and Lila have officially joined the friend group, and Lila, Mr. Agreste, and Ms. Sancoeur were sentenced to community service and are on probation until further notice. Also, Mayor Bourgeois made an announcement last week.

(Outside City Hall, André Bourgeois stands before the Parisians with the Miraculous and akuma heroes.)

ANDRÉ BOURGEOIS: (OVER MIC) With the power vested in me, this team will continue to work together as Team Miraculous, led by Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

(Everyone cheers for them.)

MARINETTE (V.O.): In other news, Adrien and I have started going out, and I have become a famous face on the city streets.

(Marinette crosses the street to the school. August’s mother passes behind her.)

AUGUST’S MOTHER: Hey, Marinette! Good luck on that test!

MARINETTE: Thanks, ma’am!

QUENTIN’S MOTHER: Excuse me, can my son have an autograph?

MARINETTE: Of course.

(With her pen, Marinette signs the paper.)

QUENTIN: Thanks, Ms. Marinette.

MARINETTE: Anytime.

MARINETTE (V.O.): I also stayed in touch with my new friends, finding out that Luna-TK has since gone on to have a baby with her husband. As for Mr. Agreste, Adrien and I found out what happened to Mrs. Agreste, and we agreed to let him revive her and restore Ms. Sancouer’s health, with the exchange being the aforementioned court sentence. And, no, the universe didn’t restart itself when the wish was made. Oh, and the Peacock Miraculous has been fixed, therefore, it’s safe to use.

(Nathalie puts on the Peacock Miraculous. Coming out of it, Duusu faces her.)

DUUSU: Hello again, Ms. Nathalie.

(Nathalie’s transformation sequence begins.)

NATHALIE: Duusu, spread my feathers!

(As Nathalie throws off her glasses, Duusu enters the brooch. It gains the colors of a peacock tail. Starting from her feet, Nathalie gains her blue dress and fuzzy collar, indigo tights and skin, and blue peacock tail hand fan, becoming Mayura.)

(Mayura lets a feather float into her hand and turns it into an Amok. It floats away and approaches a bear-like akuma hero.)

MAYURA: Hello. I am Mayura. Your Sentimonster will be your ally on this mission.

(In a cloud of purple smoke, another bear appears. Both bears approach a bank as a pair of robbers run out of it. The duo grab the robbers and pin them to the ground as the Miraculous heroes arrive.)

LADYBUG: Well done.

(The robbers are escorted into a police car and taken away. Now, in her room, Marinette climbs the stairs to her bed.)

MARINETTE: I’m just happy with where our lives are now. I went from normal girl with a normal life to class representative to hated in my class to global hero.

(She eyes her bulletin board full of photos of her friends.)

MARINETTE: Besides, as long as I have my friends by my side, what can go wrong?

(Marinette turns off the light above her bed, and she and Tikki go to sleep. Fade to black, ending the story. A message appears.)

Meeting the Team (Team Dad Cinnabar AU)

Inspired by @hailfire17's Cinnabar AU

When the disguised Gabriel Agreste had approached Chloé Bourgeois in the aftermath of her outburst to her mother, he’d been prepared for several responses to his offer. From an outright rejection, to suspicious curiosity, to immediate agreement.

He most definitely had NOT expected her to size him up, nod, and start dragging him along to another room in Le Hotel de Grand Paris.

And he was not at all prepared for when she flung open the door to reveal a collection of half-a-dozen teenagers, and for her to declare to them “Everyone, we have an actual mentor now!”, a statement which drew the room’s full attention.

“…Chloé, what the hell?!” a very familiar redhead in a red-and-black suit exclaimed in disbelief. “Half of us are transformed right now, you can’t just—”

“What do you mean, ‘an actual mentor’?” the even MORE familiar blonde boy beside her interrupted, and Gabriel had to fight to not give himself away and demand to know what on earth his SON was doing in here playing video games with LADY ROSE.

“Everyone, this is—actually I’m not sure what his name is yet, he never mentioned it, but he’s claiming to be a former superhero and was offering to train me. I figured it would be Nice of me to extend the invitation to the whole team.”

Gabriel was absolutely speechless, attempting to process what the Bourgeois girl had just said.

The whole team?

What did she mean, “the whole team”?!

“…Wait, so not just the guardian’s weird ‘doesn’t actually tell us anything’ teaching?” an unfamiliar, short-haired brunette asked, looking interested. “Well, sign me up!”

“I agree with Lyle.” Ryuko, the Dragon of Tokyo, got up from the beanbag where she had been sitting, inspecting the man. “A more active teacher would be beneficial for us all—even with my own prior experience in heroism.”

“Guys, will you keep it down? I’m watching something!” The ginger boy looked up from his computer just long enough to shoot the room a glare, before going right back to what he’d been doing.

“Okay—seriously, Derek, just stop,” Lady Rose grumbled. “None of us care about those stupid Minecraft videos you’re obsessed with! You can watch them when we AREN’T with the team!”

“Lily, shut up! You’re one to talk—”

“Look, the majority of us actually LIKE Vocaloid!”

“Sorry about those two, they’re siblings. They get like this a lot.” Adrien shook his head. “I think becoming heroes made both their self-control worse, but then again, I only met Lily AFTER she’d become the new Ladybug, so who knows.”

“LOOK JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE IT DOESN’T MEAN I HAVE TO STOP LISTENING TO IT!”

“Lily! Chill! You too, Derek. We don’t want another LynelMaster.”

“Honestly, though, I’d pay a lot to see Lily commit arson again,” the pink-haired rabbit hero Bunnix admitted from where she was lying on the couch. “I wish one of us had filmed that.”

…Dear goodness, what had he gotten himself into.

Chloé groaned. “Will everyone please pay attention?” she said with a huff, clapping her hands. Turning to the man, she sighed, rolling her eyes. “I only just joined this utterly insane group yesterday, but I’ve already seen enough to know that we desperately need adult supervision.”

Gabriel had barely been there five minutes, and had already come to the same conclusion.

“I can believe that,” he replied, shaking his head. “What I can’t believe is that these are the heroes who have been defending Paris for the past few months…”

“It’s very hard to take in, yes. Honestly, I nearly had an existential crisis yesterday learning that Lady Rose is the same girl who keeps asking me for Vocaloid music recommendations in class. But that’s nothing compared to the one I had after learning Adrien was Chat Noir—”

Chloé kept talking, but Gabriel heard none of it after the absolute bombshell she had just dropped.

Adrien.

His son.

Was CHAT NOIR?!

If the disaster that was Style Queen hadn’t already made him swear off being Hawk Moth anymore, this revelation would have done so in a heartbeat.

He’d been fighting against his own son.

For MONTHS.

…He needed to sit down.

“—thing I will admit is that Lyle coming out suddenly felt a lot less out of nowhere once I learned they were Piccola Volpe—wait, where are you going?”

Gabriel managed to keep his composure as he strode across the room to an empty armchair, before immediately collapsing into it, holding his head in his hands.

“You…you’re all just children,” he finally managed to breathe out. “The heroes of Paris. Are all teenagers. Who in the world ever thought it was okay to give this responsibility to actual CHILDREN?!”

He couldn’t believe it.

All this time, he’d assumed they were in Lycee at the LEAST, and more likely even older than that.

But no.

These were Collège students. 13, maybe 14 at the most. And the boy at the computer looked even YOUNGER, maybe 11 or so.

He had been fighting.

Children.

And one of them was his son.

Forget trying to train a new Hawk Moth to take his place.

These children needed an adult.

And apparently, the burden of being that adult had now unwittingly fallen on him.

Him, the supervillain that had been terrorizing them.

Most likely the least qualified person alive to take care of them.

Gabriel Agreste had most definitely not signed up for this.

Hello!! Recently I rewatched good omens and your blog has been godsent!! Do you have any fic recommendations where gabriel (and maybe the rest of the archangels too, but mostly gabriel) feels bad that he was an asshole and tries to apologize to aziraphale? Maybe with aziraphale feeling distrustful towards him and crowley playing the middle man because he doesn't want aziraphale to be completely cut out of heaven! But if that's too specific anything with gabriel apologizing is alright!!

Chaos Reigns Supreme

I loved my chaotic Gabriel redemption WIPs. Adrien is older and getting girlfriends/boyfriends(17-18). Gabriel realizes he lost so much time and now just want to spend time with his son. There at all meals. Asking how he is, about his friends. Adrien just wants his space back.

‘Why is he always around now?’

Adrien is finally dating Marinette and they are playing video games in his room. Gabriel enters the room with his eyes closed and chucks a box of condoms in, shouting ‘USE PROTECTION!!!!’ and then leaves, closing the door, leaving them embarassed. They haven’t even kissed.

I love thinking about the interactions between Chat Noir and Red because well. Watching Chat Noir sacrifice himself awakens the Parental Instinct in Gabriel, and Chat Noir who is Adrien still is dealing with feelings of neglect so he turns to Red who is more caring towards him when Red who is Gabriel is the reason that Chat Noir needs a surrogate father...oh, the dramatic irony...

Gabriel’s POV during Exposed

He wakes up to Nathalie banging frantically on the door to his bedroom.

He opens the door and doesn’t even get a chance to speak before the tablet she’s always carrying is thrust into his face.

It’s the latest post from the Ladyblog, and it’s titled ‘Ladybug’s Identity Finally Exposed!’

Nathalie’s face is pale. Her hands are shaking. He doesn’t understand why she’s reacting like this until after he watches it, and even then, he still doesn’t get it.

So, Ladybug is Mlle. Dupain-Cheng. He knows where she lives, where she goes to school, who her parents are, it should be easy to get her miraculous.

But the look on Nathalie’s face … she looks scared.

“Nathalie. This is the solution to all of our problems. We can finally get Emilie back. Why don’t you look more relieved?”

“Monsieur. Adrien … Adrien isn’t in his room. He hasn’t been in his room all night, he hasn’t been seen since the video was released and Chat Noir was seen bounding across Paris to Mlle. Dupain-Cheng’s house.”

No. No.

“No. It’s impossible. He can’t be … no.”

“I know. I thought the same. But I checked his room, it hasn’t been slept in. We’ve never seen him and Chat in the same place, and Mlle. Dupain-Cheng is Adrien’s friend. Of course he would run to her as soon as he found out. Adrien … is Chat Noir.”

“I refuse to accept this. We will wait until later in the morning, when it’s time for school. He’s just having a bout of teenage rebellion. He’ll come home. He isn’t Chat Noir. He can’t be.”

“Of course, sir. I will wait for him to come home. I’ll tell him that you wish to speak with him as soon as he does.”

“Yes, Nathalie. Please do.”

Adrien doesn’t come home. Well, he does, but he doesn’t.

He comes home with just enough time to get dressed and get into the limo, just enough time to direct the Gorilla to the bakery, but nothing else.

He came in through his bedroom window as Chat, not through the front door as Adrien, so Nathalie misses him.

The cameras don’t, but Adrien is beyond caring. The person who needed to know his identity knows it, he doesn’t care about being careful. He’s only thinking of being fast, efficient, and getting back to Marinette’s side as fast as possible.

It takes Gabriel three days to come to the decision to give up the miraculous.

Nathalie told him that first morning, after Chat came home but Adrien didn’t, that she was done. She wouldn’t fight alongside him for Emilie anymore, not when he was hurting Adrien in the process.

He’s doing all of this for his family, to get back what he lost, but he’s throwing the family he still has to the wayside in the process. Emilie wouldn’t have stood for it, she wouldn’t want this.

The least he can do is stop. Stop being Hawkmoth. Stop being so distant. He can still try and repair the relationship he has with his son, it’s truly the only thing he can do. It’s all he has left.

But first … he has to know.

He pulls out the butterfly and peacock miraculous, and calls the Kwami out.

“Nooroo. Duusuu. I have one question before I return you to Ladybug.”

Their eyes widen in disbelief, and neither of them speaks for fear of changing his mind.

Nooroo bows his head, “Of course, master. What is it you wish to ask?”

“The wish. The wish that the miraculous grants. Would it have ever truly given me back my Emilie?”

The Kwami’s eyes are hard when he responds. This all could have been avoided if Gabriel had thought to ask. If he hadn’t been so pigheaded and selfish, and thought he knew everything.

“No. It would never have given you what you wanted, what you lost. It would have created something new, something different, at the cost of someone else. There’s no way to know, but there’s a very good chance it would’ve been Adrien’s life. He would’ve died or ceased to exist, and you, as the person who made the wish, would’ve been the only one to remember him.”

“Thank you. And for what it’s worth, I’m sorry.”

Nooroo bares his teeth in a rare display of aggression, finally able to let it out after all of abuse and control, “It means less than nothing.”

Gabriel nods, and when the Kwami go back into their miraculous, he puts them into an envelope addressed to Marinette and seals it.

Ladybug and Chat Noir make the announcement that Hawkmoth has surrendered, that the butterfly and peacock miraculous have been returned, less than 24 hours later.

He hires people to bury Emilie’s body in the grave they already have for her. No one realizes it, and her case remains unsolved. He has her officially declared dead 3 years to the day of her disappearance.

He bears the weight of his time as Hawkmoth. and Nathalie of hers as Mayura, for the rest of his life. They hold onto the guilt of what they did, not only to Adrien, but to all of Paris, for the rest of their lives.

The Birds and the Butterflies

Summary: When an unknown cousin comes to Paris for a work collab, Adrien is estatic to spend time with her. He isn't sure how he feels about her flirting with his very good friend Marinette, though. Maybe his feelings become clearer when he sees that Marinette seems to like it. Does he want his good friend and new favourite family member to be happy together, or are there feelings that he didn't realise were there stopping him from letting it happen? Does he even have time to dwell on it while he is trying to figure out what happened between his father and his uncle all those years ago?
