Après un rêve by Gabriel Fauré

To finish off the week, I’d like to share one of my favorite bass solos of all time. Après un rêve (After a Dream) is a beautiful piece by Gabriel Fauré, and is one of the few double bass solos that really allows the lyrical elements of bass playing shine through. Adrian Eriksson’s performance (in the video linked here) is my favorite by far, and shows just how emotional the piece can be. Overall, Après un rêve is a very dramatic and surreal piece that invokes a sense of longing, and the guttural sound of a double bass amplifies this quality. It’s both engaging and relaxing, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Hello Choir, Happy Fogust!! For tomorrow, we’ll be singing another Mendelssohn classic “Be Not Afraid” from Elijah. It’s a tad bit tricky, so if you don’t know it and you have a few minutes to listen to a video and familiarize yourself, that would be marvelous. Summer Choir Feel more in Fillmore

6 月 18 日是第一次来到 Calvary，坐在 Alto 的位子上，旁边是一位叫 Ann 的老人。排练的第一首曲子是法文，Michael 开玩笑地说请大家做好准备，下一周是俄文。Michael 是 Choir 的负责人，指挥，钢琴伴奏，也唱过一次有趣的曲子。排练的时间从 8:45am 到 9:45am。

十点钟，Service 开始。Prelude 是 Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) 的 “Sicilienne, Op.78”，随着 organ 旋律的进行，我们慢慢地走到台上，坐下。这一天的 Anthem 是 Linkin Park 的 “Heavy”，演唱它的是 Peter。

结束曲 Postlude 是 Louis Vierne (1845-1924) 的一首风琴曲，演奏者一直是这位慈祥白发的 John Walko。每周天早晨排练时他弹钢琴，Service 时他弹风琴。每次 Service 结束，都会坐在位子上，一直等到他弹完 Postlude 露出憨憨一笑后，才起身回家。
