I set all of my fics to private so only registered users can view them. I don't know how much that'll help but hey worth a shot. It sucks because I write a good deal of dark!fic so a lot of the people who do give kudos are guests and I hardly get any comments at all ever, but three different apps that lift ao3 content in the same week is just... no
Y’know what? I’ve decided I don’t give a fuck. Readers take advantage of fic writers as is, seem to think they’re entitled, casual consumerism runs rampant, and they treat professional writers much the same way. Pretty much makes me want to “Big fucking ‘Fuck You’ to the people who do this,” but you know what? They don’t give a fuck. Because as long as it doesn’t affect them, and they get what they want, they’ll keep doing it. If I left today and never wrote again, they would not give a fuck because it does not affect them and they’ll just go find another fic writer. The same way people steal artwork from artists. “I want this, so I will do this.” This is more than part of why I plan to get out of fic writing. People don’t care about us as people. Not enough.
I email AO3 about it, this is the email I got back, and again, I am not in a frame of mind today to deal with any of this, so pasting here:

"The OTW does not own the works posted on the Archive – they are all owned by their respective authors. For that reason, although the OTW can (and does) rely on trademark law to make sure that people don’t make confusing apps that would make people think the OTW or AO3 is associated with them, there’s nothing we can do about apps or services that contain works owned by AO3 users. That is up to the authors themselves, who own the copyrights in their fanworks.
"Many sites have procedures (known as DMCA takedown procedures) that allow copyright owners such as fan-authors to request that their works be removed. The Fanfic Pocket Archive Library may have such procedures. To be clear, to the best of our knowledge, the app is not wholesale scraping and storing data - they're displaying content from the Archive in a very heavily modified format. The app functions as a very heavily modified site skin, with a few extra functions provided with your data within the app. Because the app's subscription fee may be explained as "to support the app's code base" and not for the content itself, it is within bounds. Our only suggestions are for the creators of the works to issue DMCA takedowns to the app developer, and to the appropriate app store if they find the developer response unsatisfactory.
We are also receiving reports about apps from a developer called Woodsign. We don't have a comment regarding these apps at this time.

I am tired, grumpy AF, and sick and tired of casual consumption and entitled fans who can’t be bothered to feedback into the very people who keep them fed. This is not a new problem. People taking fic writers for granted or treating us as second-class to artists is a long on-going problem-- which is why artists came make a living off their art, but God help fic writers anytime we try, because there is ALWAYS concerned trolling and backlash.
And am I unusually grumpy? Fuck yeah. Why? I’m tired and exhausted and that is the trigger to what is basically slamming your hand down on a button labelled ‘anger.’ Is it logical or rational? No. Does it change the fact I feel like a sleepy toddler torn between wanting to yell and cry? No. Why? I am medication in my system I want OUT of my system.
Current mood: Too tired, don’t care, done with everybody and everything, middle-finger to the sky. Is it personal? No. I’m just fucking tired, and I was already fucking tired of *wide encompassing gesture* audience entitlement.
If this doesn’t apply to you, then know it’s not AT you. But quick math shows me 2% of the number of hits on my most recent fic left a comment. 19% left kudos. Even taking re-reads into account, padding the hits number... you see the problem.

lol I am! Sometimes! Actually pretty regularly, I’m checking Tumblr daily these days (for better or for worse lol) I’m still generally trying to avoid posting original content on here but I’ve been really out of it this week so here we are, meming...
Sexuality Headcanon: Yes. Will it, he, she, or they, consent to have sex with him? Then yes. Gender Headcanon: Also yes. Why pick when Gabriel can instead select the “all of the above” box? (I will use male pronouns in this post for convenience tho.) A ship I have with said character: I actually really liked him with Kali. They had really awesome, hot chemistry, and I think they could be really interesting together long term. A BROTP I have with said character: Dean, all the way. I think that Gabriel’s entire attitude toward life and death and pranks matches Dean’s very well, as another “good little soldier” who aged into relatively staid forms of rebellion. A NOTP I have with said character: While it’s definitely NOT an NoTP - I have read it, written it, and enjoyed it - I have very mixed feelings about Sabriel, and when it’s specifically in a canon-verse it borders into full NoTP territory. The way Gabriel treated Sam in character just hurts so bad. And canon ain’t an AU and I enjoy them in AUs but specifically in canon, especially in the first couple years after Mystery Spot, just...no. A random headcanon: Gabriel doesn’t use vessels the same way that other angels do. Instead, he finds someone he’s in sync with on all levels, and if they say yes, he kind of just...incorporates them...and he can switch forms between them if he wants to. He happens to really like the “Richard Speight Jr” form - all those perfect facial expressions are just so “him.” But it’s not possession in any formal sense, which is why even though he’s an archangel he doesn’t seem to have the problems that Michael and Lucifer do in finding compatible vessels that won’t rot away. General Opinion over said character: I love Gabriel. As someone who has been watching the show since before S5, I was attached to him even when he was merely the Trickster, and I remember watching Changing Channels and just being like OH. MY. GOD. Because, like, I wasn’t heavily in SPN fandom then, and I hadn’t seen any spoilers, and I was watching S5 as it came out, and it was just *awesome.* (also, Tall Tales was the first episode of SPN I ever saw in its entirity.)

Hi Bree! I dug up a nice little spell that tests a relationship through three trials that can either make or break them. There's a lot of differing opinions on whether or not it's a curse and I was wondering what your opinion would be. Thank you for your time, you're one of my favorite witch blogs on Tumblr. :)
I think it could go either way, really. From what I’ve seen of your practice, I’m convinced you could pull it off, there’s no question there. But think of it this way.
In order for something to be tested, it must be put under stress. In the case of relationships, that usually means something bad has to happen, hence the old wives’ recommendation of being together through a birth, a death, and a wedding somewhere in the family before you consider your relationship a strong one. (Modern philosophers might also add “financial hardship,” since that’s the most commonly cited single cause of divorces in America and has been for years.)
So yes, I think this COULD be a curse, if you spun it that way, and even if it was meant to be helpful, it could still be problematic. Either way, it’s going to cause hardship because that’s the only way to reliably test a romantic bond. (Stuff like this is why I always say love magic is trickier than cursing. SO many variables!)
A spell that deliberately stresses a relationship is going to one of two things: strengthen the relationship, or end it. As long as you’re okay with either of these outcomes, and the accompanying hardship that’s going to appear in your life, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared going in.
