It’s infuriating! Sean knows Dr. Reid means well, but it doesn’t excuse his approach. At what point did Sean ever have a choice? Not once. Forced to eat the dead in the best case scenario, forced to kneel - these are the symptoms of William Bishop’s gift. He called it a miracle before, something that would allow him to continue his charity for eternity; now, his feelings are mixed. Sean is ashamed of himself at first turning, with all his mental gymnastics to see the good in this change. It was a mania. In his now sobered state, he knows better than to idolize this condition. Desecrating the dead? Who should want to subject themself and others to that? It’s disrespectful, but it is not a choice. The alternative is not an option.
“When?” Sean isn’t backing down. His gaze is hard as he stares up at his - maker? Or should he consider Bishop as such? No, God is his maker. No man. At the end of the day, he still considers them but men. “When the late William feasted upon me? When hunger pangs made me eat - my only choice being to consume dead flesh as opposed to the living? Or do you think coercion is choice? My kneeling was NOT -” He stops there. Looks downp. This is hard for him. There is such turmoil when it comes to his emotions with this. He feels dirty, like this was a violation.
“Dr. Reid.” His eyes are still down. Sean can’t quite bring himself to look back up at him. “I understand your reasoning for what you did. My problem lies in...” Sean just cannot hold his anger like other people. Frustration fizzles out. Spite fades to disappointment. Hardness turns to sadness. He has such hope for people, and he sometimes wonders why. After all he’s been through, why. Why, why, why. He does look up now, and his furrowed brows and stiff jaw have melted away. He continues to be what they call the sad saint, with eyes bleary from threatening tears. “You manipulated me. Do you understand that? You used my own history against me, and for what? Because it was easier than convincing me? Than conversation?”
