Amalgamous Prime and Ritsuka Fujimaru(s) Play A Gacha Game
"By the by, what was that about you seducing a jaguar?" "[FRUSTRATED MALE GACHA PROTAGONIST NOISES]"
Author's Notes:
The Gacha Game Hydra has grown another head, and I've finally started playing Arknights Endfield. First impressions? Well, it feels unfair to say that I initially thought it was another Genshin-inspired Action RPG, complete with the blank Choose-Your-Name-And-Gender protagonist that everyone glazes... so I won't. Instead, I'll just say that what kept me interested was the combat; specifically the fact that I have a full squad on the field instead of swapping between characters. That said, I think the tutorials said that each character would have different skills that activate when you play as them, so I need to experiment, see if I can stick with playing Endmin or if I need to switch every now and again. (also, the fact that I can't just climb everything makes things a little different than what I'm used to, in a good way)
Speaking of, Endmin really should have a gun instead of a sword IMO. It would set them apart from the other Genshin-like MCs, plus I don't see the CEO of a construction company, who was able to summon gun turrets from thin air in the prologue, as someone who would be a front line fighter.
So, the game's supposed to be set a few centuries after the original Arknights, right? Do I need to know anything about the AK universe to play this one? I used to play the original but I never got far.
About the "Cult of Larry The Cable Guy" quip: The main human enemies in Endfield, the Bonekrushers, all wear masks that have ridiculously long cables hanging off them, and the rank-and-file all speak in stereotypical Southern "redneck" accents.
The couch that Amalgamous is sitting on is one of my sister's doll furniture accessories, sized for American Girl dolls.
The comically large controller M!Ritsuka is playing on is another Transformer, High Score 100 from the first live-action movie's franchise. He's part of a subline based on electronic devices (based on a scene from the climax where a bunch of product placement comes to life and goes crazy). I have an actual Figma-scale controller, but I thought this would be funnier (also because High Score was supposed to have a line or two of dialogue originally).
The dialogue about the "D.E.C." is a reference to Iron Factory's Spirit of the DEC figures (AKA Legend-scale 3rd party DJD), who I did a whole-ass comic review of way back when.
