“With this, for eternity, you are mine.”
rukaru headcanons
Hotaru and Ruka make love in the little details that may be invisible to the untrained eye, but make the big picture all the more beautiful.
Hotaru’s workday starts at 5
Naturally Ruka is up at 4:50 ready to send her off in a cab, rubbing his eyes and trying his best to disguise his yawns with a bento in one hand and a thermos of hot expensive coffee in the other
In exchange, Hotaru allows him to kiss her goodbye (in public!! Even if the “public” is just a driver, this is monumental. Sumire has yet to believe it and even Mikan is doubtful)
They promise to see each other at home later (when Natsume wonders why, Ruka says it’s because even God respects that Hotaru doesn’t break her promises)
Ruka always texts Hotaru reminders to eat breakfast and lunch. She responds with silly drawings she’s made on her notes during the particularly boring boardmeeting she sits through every morning
Ruka sends her cute photos of the pets that come in for a checkup and tries to convince Hotaru to adopt a pet — Hotaru, we NEED to save Charly the parakeet otherwise he’ll be taken to the chopping block!!!!
Hotaru finds families for all the pets in the pound that Ruka wants to save (read: Hotaru orders her employees to bring home the animals, because she sure isn’t going to bring one to HER home)
In the end, she surprises Ruka on his birthday and their penthouse is now home to a turtle (Ichigo) and a bunny (Shiro)
Hotaru takes Ruka out on a date night every other week (When Kitsu and Koko laughs at this, Ruka merely shrugs. Yuu asks if Koko and Kitsu mean to enforce toxic masculinity with their derision. They shut up)
Ruka cooks all the meals, every day. Seafood is always on the menu, even though Ruka is vegetarian. To accommodate Ruka, Hotaru exercises a plant based diet now, plus seafood (it’s her vice)
They go on impromptu vacations (Ruka’s influence). Once Mikan dropped by for a surprise visit and found Hotaru’s devastatingly organized closet open and... empty. She freaked out and made Natsume call the police, who wouldn’t file a missing persons report until 24 hours had passed, so she hired a PI who tracked them down in an intersex bath house Paris. Hotaru blamed the incident completely on Natsume and brings it up everytime they have an argument dicussion at their weekly dinner
They have a skeleton of a schedule (Hotaru’s idea). It might have been the longest day on earth for both of them, but 8 o’clock remains the time to sit down together and have dinner. Ruka will have just finished a 6 hour surgery, standing, and still have the energy to cook a delicious meal. Hotaru will finish negotiations at 7:45 and head straight from the lawyer’s office back home, still in the 4 inch stiltettos that kill her feet.
Gakuen Alice Manga Spoilers/Ending Spoilers
Me and my sister’s “Gakuen Alice Tuesday’s” have finally ended as we read chapter 180 together (me, a rereader—her, a first time reader) and I had to take so many breaks reading the last twenty or so chapters because I couldn’t read it without sobbing (especially all the Hotaru scenes—I’m sorry, but the scene where she comes back from time space for a night and Mikan talks to her blissfully unaware about the memories lesson and Hotaru is crying and my sister is watching me sob because I know what happened and she wouldn’t until the next chapter and also the scene where Hotaru is gripping onto Nodacchi about how Mikan has seen both her mother and father die so she refuses to let Mikan see Natsume die as well).
Unlike the fandom, my sister actually likes the ending since she expected Natsume to die (she’s so sharp and always guesses right so whenever she theorized something about Natsume dying or something happening to Mikan or Hotaru, I had to gaslight and let her keep thinking the opposite because for the love of god, Nat why are you so perceptive this girl already assumed Yuka would die like twenty chapters before her death). She probably was fine with the ending because I told her about the epilogue notes after reading it that Higuchi had done (about Hotaru and Subaru being fine, eventually meeting Mikan and co. once again and that hopping through time wasn’t as bad as the fandom had thought).
She doesn’t want to read the sequel (Kuni no Alice) though, which is a shame because it’s cute and has a good amount of Natsume and Mikan couple moments.
