Laying on her reiki table, I closed my eyes as Hope set sacred space in the room she used for healing. We had decided a week or so before to do a series of reiki sessions in exchange for a painting–an arrangement we were both really excited about. It had been years since I’d had any energy work done on myself, and my body craved it. As she lit candles and burned sage, I could feel my body surrendering, opening, and found my awareness in another world. Where Hope had stood moments before, I could sense a large, otherworldly presence take her place.

The being was neither black nor white, but gray. A gentle grandmotherly essence, the galactic being was neither male nor female, yet at the same time both. What I registered in those moments was incredible balance, neutrality, serenity and pure, infinite love. This being did not speak in words, but through pictures. It was clear that this was what I was supposed to paint. Over the next few months, I did just that. We later came to learn the being’s name: ZaAeyda.

Although I painted it, I wasn’t always aware during the process of it’s creation. I didn’t really think about what it meant until after. Imagery has it’s own language. Sometimes I use this language on purpose, other times it uses me. Unlike the written word, which is fixed, an image can be read in a multitude of ways. Here are just some of the details as I understand them:

Earth is the inner mind made manifest. Our outer world is a direct reflection of our inner ones, showing us in tangible form the condition of the collective mind. If our thoughts create our realities, in order to create healing, we first need to hold a vision of what this looks like. ZaAeyda sits in a New Earth, one in which they are intrinsically a part of. They are holding dream space, imagining a healed and whole planet. The lotus they hold is not separate from them, but growing from their hands. They are their own solution, their own healing. Above them, a powerful source of light–our sun–envelopes ZaAeyda‘s vision of Earth. The light flows through their body like an electric current to fuel the growth of the lotus. It also grounds them more firmly to the physical Earth they are creating. Beyond the sun are other lights, mirroring the shape of humans... suggesting our origins as beings of infinite light, stars in human form. Crowning the entire scene is a rainbow. Unlike a typical rainbow, this one separates individual colors from the whole. In this, we can see how valuable the individual is in making up the whole. Without the other colors, red is just red. But when put beside the others, it becomes infinitely more, and the rainbow becomes greater than the sum of its parts. It is in the colors existing together– contrasting, highlighting and defining one another that make the rainbow so beautiful, and such a symbol of hope. ZaAeyda themself is genderless, and of a neutral color... neither black nor white, lightness nor darkness, but ALL opposites existing together and achieving balance. They suggest the importance of holding a vision, and creating a space for which to realize it in. The imagination has incredible power, for everything that exists was first imagined. What we believe to be possible is. ZaAeyda shows us that we are–and have–everything we need to heal.
