Honestly the whole Gävlebocken tradition is ridiculous. Not because of the arson; that's the most beautiful thing. But because the city REFUSES to acknowledge it as a part of the tradition. They could really make something wonderful of it. Turn it into a festival, open market stalls, encourage people to come and enjoy the spectacle. They could be making money on it too! It has the potential to become a tourist destination and draw in people from all over!! Instead they spend boatloads on private security and fences and webcam streams. Embrace the dumb tradition and get the stick out of your ass, Gävle.

Besides, fire is cleansing. Close out the year with a giant pyre, eat and get drunk, and start fresh the next morning.

Been horribly unwell but my yule goats are here! I’ll have them up for the holiday season

So the goat is traditionally sacrificed in flames.

One year, it was thrown in the river, and sacrificed in water.

This year, it has been claimed by the birds, and sacrificed to the air.

So should we sacrifice it to the earth next year, or does the time it was smashed up, presumably with metal tools, count for that?
