A year ago, on my way to Kentucky, I got a note from Andrew Steeves @gaspereaupress with encouragement to "cut the barbed wire and escape into the beautiful uncertainty of the worthwhile." I got to spend this past week doing just that at Gaspereau Press in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Certainly beautiful and thoroughly worthwhile, I'm full of all kinds of experience I didn't expect and I'm feeling the best kind of tired out, calm, and fortified for the road ahead into ever deeper literary wilderness. Well I knew I had to make it out to Nova Scotia, but didn't expect it'd be with my name on the docket for Gaspereau's annual wayzgoose! I'm mighty honored and excited to share the ticket with the super talented @clawhammerpress and @deephollowprint and @arquoisedesign and so many others I have yet to meet. I'll do my best to share what I know about building a shop from pure doggedness, community support, gratitude, and poetry bits. Special Teen Event

Sunday November 1st at 3 p.m.

Come hear two cool readings from the Secrets series from Orca: Vicki Grant will read from Small Bones, and Marthe Jocelyn will read from A Big Dose of Lucky. Afterwards they’ll be happy to participate in a Q & A! Note: there is no Teen Book Club this month; this event will take its place.

Lexicon Book Club

Friday November 6th, 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This month we’re talking about The Mathematician’s Shiva by Stuart Rojstaczer. What did you think about this book? Come by, BYOsnacks, and join in on a lively discussion. Note: usually our book club is held on the second Friday of each month, but we’re switching it up this time.

Arthur Bull reading and performance, with special musical guest Norm Adams

Join us as Arthur Bull reads from his new book of poetry Fifty Scores (Teksteditions) and plays guitar, accompanied by cellist Norm Adams. It will be a wonderful night of poetry and music!

Saturday November 14th, 7 p.m.

Come hear some gripping poetry as Gaspereau Press authors read from their latest books of poetry. Elena Johnson joins us from BC with her book Field Notes for the Alpine Tundra, and Sue Goyette (whose book Ocean was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize) from Halifax with The Brief Reincarnation of a Girl.
