undertale/deltarune headcanon (theory??)

yo im so pissed i wrote this whole thing out and tumblr did a fucky wucky and i lost it all i wrote like 7 paragraphs oh my god anyway

hello i was experiencing deltarune brainrot as ya do and thought of something.

so monsters use magic, and from what we've seen in undertale and deltarune, only a few to no humans can, so why is that? i don't think that humans can't use magic, its just that we're thinking about it in the wrong way.

in undertale we see the power of the reset. in deltarune we see the power of the knights creation of dark fountains. it is my personal opinion that humans can actually do magic, it just manifests in a different form than what we see with monsters.

thinking back to the war between humans and monsters, humans were definitely able to use magic. they locked the monsters away with a magical barrier! yet, humans don't seem to be able to do that anymore. i've seen people say that it's b/c monsters arent around so humans can't feed off their magical energy, but i have something different in mind. i believe that after the war, humans developed a distain for ANYTHING magic as it was related to monsters. so, humans forbade other humans from using it (we see this in our irl history) b/c of their hatred of monsters. while their hatred was focused on monster magic at first, it quickly turned to hatred for ALL magic, including human. so unfortunately, over the centuries, many human magic techniques were lost to time. so it's not that they don't know how to do magic, it's that they don't know how to do human magic anymore.

swinging back to magical expression between humans and monsters, monster magic is an expression/change of the self. they showcase their personalities through their magic, and their magic seems to be strictly performative. while their magic can be used to alter, it only ever alters themselves, a stark contrast from what i think human magic is.

human magic is the ability to alter the world around them. whether it be physical or magical, humans have an enormous impact on any environment they take part in. that’s why i believe that kris and frisk posses magic, it’s just not monster. kris creates a whole new world via dark fountain, and frisk has the ability to reset, which they can both use to alter the world in whatever way they see fit. they both have human magic, the ability to affect the external.

so, humans and monsters have magic, it just manifests differently. humans are already established to be much stronger than monsters so it makes sense they would be gifted with such an extreme ability. on top of this, i believe human’s bodies to be stronger since they are made out of organic material. since monster’s bodies are made of magic, adding human magic (like in the determination experiments) causes a sort of “system overload” and they quite literally melt down (b/c human magic is so powerful).

whereas with humans, since their bodies are made of physical material, they can contain the magic better and it leads to them being able to harbor more. the way i’m thinking of it is that it’s like a conductor insulator type deal (like with heat, but with magic) but i’m not entirely sure if the metaphor makes sense lol. that’s also why some humans can do monster magic, it’s a “weaker” form of magic that’s all about self expression and we all know humans are good at self expression lol. it's just that they chose not to b/c human magic is much more powerful. or maybe its a situation where everyone decided that monster magic was the only valid form of magic, and humans didn't even KNOW they possessed their own magic. or perhaps those who possesed magic like kris and frisk were ostracized. there's so many ways it could go really! i think humans were aware, at least to an extent, that they possessed magic.

now, i’ve been calling it “human magic”, but i believe we already have a name for human magic in deltarune and undertale.

"the POWER of determination", "the POWER of this place shines before you." notice how "power" is associated with humans! if you were to believe my ramblings, this is a big hint that the dark world is human made! and we know it was human made b/c of chapter 2 of course.

so, not only does human magic manifest differently than monster’s, it’s called something entirely different. every human is capable of having power, it’s just that they don’t know how. modern monsters are also probably unaware of the mechanisms of which human magic is attained/works so they just assume humans can’t do it.

i do wonder how kris went abt creating their first dark fountain (if they were even in control), and if (now i’m not caught up on gaster lore so forgive me if what i’m saying is preposterous) gaster was trying to harness human magic (power) to alter the world in some way. and if so, how?

finally, please forgive me if anything i said in here isn’t accurate/wouldn’t work with undertale’s lore, it’s been years since i’ve played/thought abt it this much so the ut/dr cabinet is a bit dusty.

(And NO, gaster is not FORGOTTEN. ASGORE, found out he went MISSING, and didn't hire anyone for a LONG TIME after that! Im guessing being a royal scientist isn't as important as i thought it was. Cause alphys barely gets recognition once she gets the job. And no one really cares for the scientist job outside of being one! Luckily, papyrus makes sure to give her proper credit! Even called her "great!" Isn't that just wonderful?)

In conclusion, gaster is not only INCREDIBLY SKILLED, he is also, EXTREMELY UNNOTICED FOR HIS EFFORTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS SOCITETY.

Well... If Gaster is the 'missing' character in Undertale, wouldn't MoonJumper (Who was cut from A Hat in Time in the beta) be the "Gaster of A Hat in Time"?
