Enjolras is extremely protective of children. He has no particular reasoning for it, he just is. So when he meets a little Gavroche through the fence at one of the early concentration camps... It makes him start questioning the side that he's on more so than he already had been.

Enjolras quite literally does not understand the motivation behind relationships. Aside from the slight crush he develops on Grantaire, he's never once had an urge for any form of relationship or more-than-friendship circumstance with anyone around him, male or female. He's too involved in his causes to find them fruitful.
