Chapter One: The Appearance
When a very little Harry Potter suddenly appears in Sirius’ cell in Azkaban, he can’t help but notice his godson’s now shy demeanor and the terrible state of his clothes. Luckily, the kid still remembered him and looked beyond relieved to see him once more. Sirius knew he had to find a way to prove his innocence for his godson’s sake.
Here we go! Let's finally have our Sirigan happy ending this time around!
The Lycanthrope Posting
"The Aurors are in trouble." Robards said. "Obviously, there are Death Eaters in the department." "We're not supposed to say there are Death Eaters anywhere." Tonks pointed out. "Not in the Ministry. You can not trust people not to overhear and if the wrong person overhears..." He let out a long exhale. "Well, did you know there were forty five Aurors at the start of the last war?" He asked, and Tonks shook her head. "By the end of the war, there were thirty two. That's a lot of wands to lose, a lot of friends to lose."
(I know we're never given numbers on the Auror department, I like to make shit up)
"To Draw the First Blood" - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Their fall came disturbingly fast. The day their minister was killed was the day rightful order ceased to exist within the British Ministry of Magic. Even their best defense succumbed within the first week. From then on, their objective was no longer the enforcement of the law against the dark and the corrupted, but to survival. And their leader, Gawain Robards, didn’t expect himself to live.
Spans the main part of the second wizarding war, from 1st August 1997 - 2nd May 1998
2nd part of the “Blood” series.
@insertcpnhere :P Part Two is here.
Robards: Moody? Mad-Eye: What? Robards: Before you start your legally questionable interrogation techniques, may we have five minutes with the suspect?
Heyy
Would u ever think of writing a sequel to knowing where to look
It would be great to see Harry training to be an auror under gawain's
Guidance
I like to think the remainder of Gawain's career was utterly boring and unworthy of record. I think Gawain (and Mary) deserve that. But I appreciate the interest!
In case I ever write a Merula POV fic (absolutely no guarantees there), I’ve been keeping track of what Ministry-based shenanigans occur behind the scenes in the Witch, and the vast majority of it has been:
- Merula and Talbott awkwardly trying to support each other’s romantic endeavors (neither of them are good at it),
- Kathy and Merula accidentally and repeatedly confusing the heck out of each other (including a failed flirting attempt by poor Kathy), and
- Robards being the sole person to resemble a healthy father figure in Merula’s life (dad jokes, awkward supportive gestures, and all).
In other words, if I never write the full fic, there is so much oneshot potential.
What was Gawain Robards so curious about that he had to ambush Harry during his DADA exam. I can’t seem to quite grasp it. Can please help to explain?
Well, imagine you are the guy who has to pick up a department that has been gutted by a war and was riddled with members of the defeated faction of Death Eaters. And it's your job to somehow root out lingering Voldemort supporters, pure blood supremacists, and cobble together national security in the post-war world. And pretty much all the trustworthy strong allies are either dead, highly traumatized, or dragged into other positions of authority in the reeling Ministry. And you really, really need warm bodies to get all this shit done in a way that doesn't get another pile of people killed. (The greatest danger is what happens after the Big Bad Guy is defeated. That's where the real reckoning happens.) And the only crop of warm bodies is likely bloody kids, which sucks on a whole other level, but you have zero choice here. Even if it means watching a bunch of young kids getting themselves killed, thrown into the machinery of fucked-up-ness that is the necessary work of cobbling a somewhat functioning social order together again. He doesn't need heroes. He needs people to do this dirty work and listen to fucking orders so they can do it in a way that doesn't get (anymore) literal children killed.
And then you've got this kid, who is either mentally unstable or some perfect hero, and neither are particularly helpful, because that kind of cult of personality and celebrity is just another disaster waiting to happen (hello, celebrity-leader Bagman disaster, and popularity-contest Fudge disaster), and at best, this Harry Potter is a literal child playing at things well beyond him (who probably ALSO has ptsd) and, you know what? You're fucking tired. And, yes, a bit traumatized from your own time in the war, and you don't have time to be gentle or tip-toe around figuring out what the hell this kid's angle is or exactly what kind of disaster he's gonna be. You just need to know. You have shit to do. You probably also haven't had a full night's sleep in three years since the last minister you worked for was assassinated on your watch, and there was a reason you never wanted to be the head of a department, you're just THE ONLY ONE LEFT ALIVE.
So, yeah. Robards is an ass. But he's also doing his (terrible) best.
