🇹🇯 Flooding and Mudflows in Rushan District, Tajikistan — April 9–10, 2025

🌧 Heavy rainfall on April 9 triggered floods and mudflows across several regions of Tajikistan.

🌊 In Dushanbe, the basements of three houses were flooded overnight on April 10 in the Sino and Firdavsi districts. In Hisor, the village of Shurob, and in the villages of Dara (Rudaki District) and Tavildara (Sangvor District), mudflows flooded household plots and damaged private properties.

🚧 The most severe impact was reported in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO). In Rushan District, mudflows disrupted traffic on the Rushan–Khorog road and flooded the basements of six homes in the villages of Derushon and Barushon. Additionally, 13 mudflows were recorded on the road leading from the district center to the Bartang Valley, causing a temporary road closure.

For centuries one of the world’s most isolated areas, the Pamir mountains of Tajikistan is currently being opened up to new economic development mainly via Chinese investment in the region’s rudimentary infrastructure. This project aims to chronicle how a traditional culture is being transformed. A wider socio-economic trend is reflected in the changes to the daily lives of those affected.
