Hey I get that its a weird time to send my bi-yearly update, but a design doc for Warhammer III "leaked." And by that I mean Creative Assembly/Sega most likely leaked it to generate some buzz, but you didn't hear that from me. Anyways, us PC RTS fans are at the edge of their seats because it looks like the next game is going to deliver everything people have been asking for years. Sega and CA continue to have an iron-grip on the RTS market and things are good for us.

I am going through my Tumblr asks trying to build up a big queue for the renovation we’re doing, and I just want to say, Zombiepie my man, I haven’t been ignoring you. Or I have, but the last two times you’ve sent asks him two things happen:

Somehow your ask comes in during a big influx of new prompts and it gets buried under the wave

I think “oh man it’s zombiepie I should say something important” and then I can’t think of anything important in time before #1 happens

I’m trying to remember when you even sent this in, and I assume this was probably September or October. Looking in to it, it looks like Total War: Warhammer III just got announced like, last week. Or I guess by the time this goes up, it’ll be closer to a month.

I’m real glad Sega gives Creative Assembly carte blanche to kind of do whatever, you know? I know the RTS genre had a real dry spell, and kind of continues to have something of a dry spell. It’s like, what, Warhammer III, I think Microsoft has a new Age of Empires cooking, and... that’s kind of it? Unless you count Sega’s Not-Civ game, Humankind or whatever. But that’s different.

Glancing at the RTS tag on Steam, and woof, yeah. A lot of really old games and a bunch of bizarre, zero-budget indies. Though Creeper World is a name I’ve heard every now and then, and I notice Creeper World 4 is rated “Overwhelmingly Positive.” Is that anything? The trailer makes it look more like some kind of weird tower defense game.

I recall asking a former GameSpot employee about the Cinematech episodes GameSpot made and they intimated that a G4 higher up made you redo an episode at the last minute. Also Bethany's episode is a work of work of art.

I don’t know that I’d use the word “higher up” to describe him, he wasn’t a suit or anything, if that’s what you mean. Anyway, yeah, all our scripts came in way too wordy and long for a show that typically has zero words and zero human faces. But we pushed for that because if we were just saying “hey, here are some game cutscenes you should show,” then we’d be getting nothing out of it, exposure-wise.

Me and Ryan re-wrote one of the episodes in our hotel room the night before we shot it, in-between me playing a few hours of PSO Blue Burst on a shitty company laptop.

As someone who is on a life-long quest to play every Final Fantasy game, there's something about FF7 and how fans remember it, that rubs me the wrong way. I'm not talking about the efforts to re-canonize Cloud into a moody teenager when in vanilla FF7 he's as emotionally diverse as the cast of FF6. What bugs me is everyone's "selective memory" about JENOVA. She's the crux of the story for more than half the story, YET, everyone talks about Sephiroth. Am I crazy for finding this odd?

I think it’s also because JENOVA isn’t, really, like, a character? She’s a monster you fight a few times. She kind of talks, sometimes, but not really, and she’s not really given any kind of agency of her own.

Sephiroth is definitely the identity of the antagonist. He’s the one using JENOVA for his plans. In the story, she’s used more as a tool, and as I remember, she’s not even really alive. She’s kind of just a corpse, only a head even, and it’s Sephiroth orchestrating everything around her.

Big spoilers incoming for Final Fantasy VII.

I’ve actually had to skim a wiki here to refresh my memory, but in short, Hojo began experimenting with JENOVA’s cells and Mako energy, which created Sephiroth. Sephiroth inherited at least some of JENOVA’s abilities, which allows him to use magic without needing materia. It even seems to give him some control over organisms at the cellular level. He learns some of this after tearing off JENOVA’s head that night in Nibelheim and absorbing her knowledge.

For the majority of the game, the “Sephiroth” you are chasing is actually just pieces of JENOVA’s body he’s mutated and given life, apparently. This is why any time you corner Sephiroth, you end up fighting some version of JENOVA, and Sephiroth himself disappears. The real Sephiroth was chilling in the Northern Crater, giving commands to JENOVA to do his bidding.

But throughout all of this, JENOVA is still dead. She’d been dead for thousands of years. Sephiroth is actually the one making everything happen, even if he’s sort of just inheriting the will of JENOVA.

What are your initial thoughts on the rumor regarding Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows?

Ummm, makes sense I guess? Bullet Club has more then run it’s course and Nakamura talked about wanting to make it big in America.

I’m hopeful that it frees up the top of the card in NJPW and we at least get a few cool matches in WWE.

TMI question (but not really): When was the last time you had a dream that feature a professional wrestler in it? I am just now recovering from a dream that had scorpions and Chris Jericho in it.

I think I have had dreams about wrestling rather then dreams with actual wrestlers.

I use a lot of wrestling moves on dream people.

If you plan on deciding on what the "best" fighting game ever made is for Ranking of Fighters, does this also mean that you will be deciding on what is the "worst" fighting game ever made?

We will have a ranked list, yes. There will be winners and losers.

When you say that "Sonic could be a deity," does this mean Sonic died for our sins, or is more like our "True Thetan" that used DC8s to escape the clutches of Xenu?

Wait, is that what scientology really is? They’re escaping Xenu? Does that make Xenu, like, Cthulhu?
