"I got the night off tonight, so I figured why not actually get up during the time when the sun was up to come and... see what people are up to. Penny is back and taking up some of my stage time anyway." Scowling just a little at the tiny hit to her revenue stream, Diamond rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to the crowd as they all mulled around as their numbers grew. It wouldn't be long before it was crowded as fuck on the grounds. "Usually I skip this shit, I haven't even been to one since like high school. It's just a reason for people to throw away their money for cheap trinkets and shitty rides."

"Well this here is my famous raspberry Rhubarb pie. It's sweet n' tart and like a touch'a spring you can put in your mouth." Never much of a sales woman, Birch was doing her best to win the contest, having put her heart and soul into the pies that had been cut into bite sized pieces and were handed out in little cups with wooden spoons to those who were testing the pies at the booths before placing their votes.

"The rhubarb came right out'a my own garden, though unfortunately my raspberry bushes ain't in season yet, I promise these are as fresh as a spring mornin'."

"Hm? Oh. I'm mostly just browsing. My boyfriend and I had this date idea that we'd each find a gift for the other at the garage sale, but I may have wandered over, here too. Not sure if it's cheating but... shh..." Auttie grinned at the person next to her while she picked up a hand beaded keychain of a lizard, turned it over in her hand and then set it back down. "Are you excited for everything? I highly suggest the ferris wheel, because is it even a day at the carnival without a go around?"

"I don't dislike these events, in fact, I quite enjoy anything with a dunk tank." It might surprise some people that Sada had a fairly good arm, and mostly just for that reason. From the principal to the mayor, she took great joy in watching them fall into the tanks of cold water beneath them. "I wonder if we'll manage to get Judge Reynolds up on that seat at some point, especially with her apparent run for Mayor. I should have known all those years ago that that hall monitor would end up trying to rule the town."

"Can you believe this is my first spring carnival? Been coming to Carroll since I was little, and never once got the chance. Of course I only came in the summers and so by then I'd long missed it, but I've been hearing people talk about it forever. I'm so stoked to finally get a chance. I'm gunna play every game, and go on every ride, and I've already decided that my summer wardrobe is going to come from the garage sale. I mean how cool is that?!" Talking a mile a minute, her excitement overrode even her medication and she was practically bouncing on her toes as she drank in everything around her. "I don't even know where to start!"

Fiddling with her hearing aides as he came around his car to her side, Aggie, found herself suddenly awash with nerves that threatened to overwhelm her. The realization of just how real it was that she was going to have to stand before his parents and withstand that sort of scrutiny was cowing. "I just... You're sure I can do this?"

Most times if something meant this level of nerves, she'd just not do it, find a way out of it, but this was too important and she was utterly unable to move from where her feet were glued to the ground as anxiety took hold. "Promise you won't let go of my hand for anything?" That very hand joining it's partner in signing her words, a nervous habit.

"Oh yeah! That's right! No way I'm not getting that giant unicorn stuffy! Did you see that ring go right over the bottle?! I've been practicing for this my whole life! Oh, oops, sorry!" And this was sure to be the year she'd actually get her hands on that stuffed animal, pretty sure the one hanging there was the very same one she'd been trying to win since she was a kid. "I'm so glad we got this weekend off filming for the holiday! I mean, I think I might have cried if I hadn't been able to be here!"

hera had prepared with excessive care — after all, this would be her first pie competition since arriving in town. the harvest on her property had been generous, and the proof lay in the array of pies spread across her counter: from pear to peach, to apple and blueberry. yet her chosen showpiece was an apple crumble pie, served with homemade walnut ice cream.

for the fifteenth time that day, hera adjusted her display and smiled at the locals passing by, warmly offering them slices and letting them choose what to try. still, there was always someone who questioned her selection — and, of course, hera had her favourite, one that had once been the favourite of someone far too important.

“ here, go on — have this and tell me it’s not worth the calories, ” she said brightly, handing over a slice of poached pear pie with homemade cream-and-almond ice cream, finished with a dusting of grated nutmeg. “ try it and tell me what you think. ”
