The other day i was reading the wiki entries on Luffy's Gears bc i felt like it and i realized something.

So, after Luffy comes out of Gear Third, he shrinks and is unable to stretch at all for a time roughly equal to how long he spent in Gear Third.

And when he shrinks, he becomes roughly the same size as he was when he ate the Gum Gum fruit.

If not a little shorter.

And to me, this implies that he hasn't actually experienced any cellular growth since he ate the Gum Gum, and instead his body has naturally stretched proportionately to hiw he would have grown.

The idea is definitely shaky, but I think it works. After all if his body wasn't already stretched by default then there would be no reason for him to shrink.
