Dear Future Me (The Future Self)

I think one thing I really learned here is to move forward the future with the right perspective. Ever since then, I changed my perspective. Now I would write a letter to myself in the future, because who knows, I might just read this after a while.

Dear me, the perspective has chaged going towards the future. I know is started out to be hopeless after we pursued something we didn't really feel passionate about along with the problems that came along with it. Writing this now, I don't really know what to expect of future, but by faith, I hope we finished the following. I hope you finished education in MAPUA and if you did, then ohmygosh I am so proud of you! It was a difficult journey but you made it! But if you're still studying, you got this. It doesn't matter what school you are in right now, all that matters is that you are making progress. I hope you come clean with the mistakes you made as well. I hope you settle with the one you love and I'm pretty sure you will do just that. I am proud of you for still being alive and for being a better person than you were in the past. Whatever you have pursued, may it be music, engineering, or anything else, I know the struggle is all worth it. Thank you for being strong and thank you for learning along the way. Future me is pretty cool no cap.

EMERGENT - Socio-Digital Self

The socio-digital self is the life we have in the internet. After the discussions about this, I learned that being able to adapt to modern technology is a must in this generation we live in. A good example why is this pandemic. Notice how almost everything done face-to-face in the past transitioned to online setups. Businesses were done mostly online, and even education is taken online and so much more. However, there is still this responsibility that we must ensure that we use technology properly. This is why we have digital citizenship. This is anjointed in 3 general principles: respecting, educating, and protecting oneself and other. This citizenships purpose is to regulate human behavior in this digital world.

Something that could be brought up in this topic is something i mentioned in the past. Online disinhibition, where a person could feel like he or she is at home in the internet or if he or she is just straight up rude and really jsut uses the internet to harass people. Whatever it is, online disinhibition is the way we see people communicate in the internet.

In the internet, there is something we call "anonymity". It is being anonymous, keeping your real identity away hidden while being able to be open in the internet. As far as I know, most anonymous people enjoy doing stupid things like harass others while there are others who just wants to help out.

The internet is filled with different personalities. It could either be who the person truly is or it also could be different in an actual setting. The digital world continues to improve and it's something that is involved in our every day lives now. It is important to know the elements of digital citizenship in order to cope up and adapt to the new things that happens in the digital world. After all that, I keep track of what I do in the internet. I don't reveal too much of myself and I think about what I share before I do it. I am doing my responsibility in keeping the internet less toxic and I think I am doing a good job being a digital citizen.

EMERGENT - Political Self

Before I go into the political self, I think it would be fair if I started by defining what politics is. Taken from Merriam-webster dictionary, politics is the art or science of government. It is the art and science concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy and it is also the art and science concerned with winning and holding control over a government. Going deeper into politics, there is more that I have confirmed to be true.

Politics is concerned with power. Without it, an individual can't really be a part of it or in other words, they won't be elected. It is also clearly observed that inequalites are seen within societies that whoever holds the most power is the one that gets to lead the place. I learned that politics is even pesonal as there are countless examples we see today that politics makes a person in most cases, for example: DDS in the Philippines, and Trump followers in America. I think that explains that.

The political self is also about participating in society or practicing democracy. I learned that we all have the responsibility of being an active citizen politics to really work. It is sharing decisions that will affect the life of a community, for the best or for the worse. Active citiizenship is means not being apolitical for me. Doing nothing won't stop the crazy things happening in politics we have today. One way I do in being an Active citizen is to try to enlighten people in social media about what I think about what's been going on. It's nice that people agree with me, but I hope that the things I share reach those who aren't really making themselves aware about the situation. If someone tells me I'm wrong or thinks otherwise, I think they have the right explain or tell me how things would be better. I actually like it if I was educated more about politics so I am open for that. It's just that there are so many trolls and sensitive people that saying something about something somehow triggers them. They won't try to argue, they just straight up attack you personally. That is not a good example of being political. It's a good thing I'm open for knowledge.

SPIRITUAL - Discovering Life's Meaning

This is a good one. So the question is, when do we know if we discover life's meaning? Humans naturally try to become better and make reflections about themselves They make mistakes and learn and make mistakes and learn and it keeps on going until a person is satisfied. When could we say if sa person is satisfied? It could be if he or she is happy or if he or she is healthy. Maybe it's when a person feels good? Based on the learning, satisfaction is something mentioned a lot when it comes to discovering the meaning of life. But is there more to it?

Being satisfied, I don't understand when a human could truly be satisfied. There is so much to understand and to know in this world and so many choices of life's meaning. At first I thought I was pursuing music but here I am in Engineering. My love for music is still there but I don't know if I will ever get back at it completely. Maybe it truly is about happiness? A person who is clearly happy every day, maybe that's when we know someone found the meaning of life? When he or she gets to control his emotions or keep healthy relationships. Keeping things positive even in the darkest times. These are things I don't understand truly yet Hopefully, I get there too.

SPIRITUAL - Connections With Nature

The spiritual self does not stop in being connected to a higher being that is beyond physical. It is also related in how humans are one with nature. The Affinity with nature is something that binds people and nature together. It also means that people includes nature to be part of who they are. Being one with nature means harming nature harms oneself. Then there is Ecopsychology, which is the interconnections between humans and nature through a phenomenological and sensorial link, and that the world could be healed with the help of humans. Personally, I don't usually get involved when being around nature, but it really hurts seeing humans destroying nature. It stresses me out. I'm not around nature most of the time but whenever I am, it is such a beautiful scene I just don't understand why humans would destroy such beauty. After the lesson, I have more justification that we have our duty to be proctectors of nature. Nature is part of the self, and is therefore part of everyone. I did my own reading on how to avoid hurting nature and keeping the self helathy along with it. Honestly, taking care of nature is a win-win for everyone in the long run.

SPIRITUAL - The Inner Soul

In the inner soul, there is spirituality and religiosity.

Spirituality or the spiritual self is the most powerful part of an individual. This does not talk only about the present but it goes about finding meaning. I personally think this is one of the most important parts since this is spirituality is different for all individuals. It talks about the connections of a person in different aspects of the individuals existence and it goes beyond physical realities. It is sacred and transcendent. Personally, my spiritual self is being connected with God. There are many times that I act like I have no faith, but I really do believe that God exists and everything revolves around him. My spiritual self is my relationship with God. Despite making bad choices and going against Him, He still loves me unconditionally.

Then there is Religiosity, defined as the adherence to a belief system and practices associated with a tradition which there is agreement about what is believed and practiced. So to understand clearly, Spirituality is an individual thing while Religiosity is more of a group thing or a communal thing. This is practicing your beliefs towards a better world. It's not necessary for a person to have a religion to be spiritual. After the lesson, I no longer treated those who aren't Christian differently. We're all people and I believe that we are all connected no matter the differences of our beliefs. It is our duty spiritually to make a better tomorrow.

EMOTIONAL

This the part where I talk about emotions and what I learned from it. There are two things to be discussed which are the Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Regulation.

So basically Emotional intelligence is defined to be the ability of knowing or understanding your emotion and to act according to what is, let's say, civilzed. It is being able to cope with what is "normal" for the environment. It is also being able to understand the emotions of others and managing the emotion of the self and what others are feeling aswell. I can't say that I am always emotionally intelligent. There are times that I just feel done with what I am doing and instead coping up or doing something about it, I just give up. Now I know that things like this happen and the best practice is to be emotionally intelligent. It was thought in GED101 that there are models that may help in being emotionally intelligent. There is the one Goleman (2005) came up with which defines emotional intelligence and how to achieve it. There is also Bar-On's model (1997) that is about expressing and thinking things throught and how to act on it. There are many more models that was shown but these two were the ones that really caught my attention. I think I could see improvements in being emotionally intelligent after knowing these things. In the previous terms, I've been giving up on a lot of tasks which leads to me failing the subject. Right now, it's the same load and I am managing. I even started talking to those who just wants to talk about what's going on in their head.

With emotional intelligence comes emotional regulation. Fromo my understanding of the lesson, emotioinal regulation is how a person will act intelligently due to a emotion. Managing the emotions is a difficult thing to do and there are times that I think a person could really just blow. Emotional regulation is defined to be an attempt to influence ones emotion. There are different techniques that are mentioned and surprisingly, these are things I do a lot. An example is distracting oneself from the stress or emotion.Another is to do anything, literally anything else from the issue to avoid emotion. The one that really hit me is supressing the emotion. I've been supressing my emotion a lot especially trying to cope up with what's been going on during this pandemic. It hurts to be forced to take on education during this time knowing that I'm not really learning much. I tried so many times to cope with it, along with the other issues in me, but tomorrow is another day and it keeps on happening. So after the lesson, it seems the best thing to do is to keep on practicing myself in being emotionally intelligent and to be able to regulate my emotion, especially during these hard times because although I learned this by book, I really still can't apply it.

UNFOLDING THE MENTAL SELF

Cognition, memory, and intelligence will be three important things that I want to talk about here. Cognition is defined as the process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and senses. With that definition alone, I think I may have covered this part. But going deeper into it, cognition is something that an individual has that empowers them to hold up in their own way. It's the higher process of thinking that makes a person special since the mental section truly is complex.

Memory is where knowledge is stored to be used later on. It could be short-term, long-term, or sensory memory. After learning these three, I realized that there is only so little in my long-term memory. Only actual times I loved and things that must be remembered to be able to get a job. Short-term memory occurs a lot in online classes nowaday, and I am sorry. With the pandemic going on, I still haven't adjusted so at one moment I thought I was learning something new and valueable, then moments later I totally forget. I still think having to make use of the memory is important and crucial for most things today.

Intelligence is defined as the person's capacity for learning, planning, understand, solving problems with logic, and creativity. These are the "smart" people we all know. I also found it interesting that there are multiple intelligences that are unique for each individual. I took a test and got the result of being musically intelligent. I was pretty happy about it knowing I am a music freak. I learned that we can't really define a person's intelligence based on what they about things. There may be things that I know that others don't understand as much and vice versa. So in a way, I guess what I learned is that everyone is actually intelligent.

With cognition, memory, and intelligence working together, then comes human learning. Human learning is taken all from those three mentioned. It is mostly from experience and education, but we barely notice that we learn every day. By successfully doing small tasks, we learn. By doing mistakes, we learn. I personally know this because I have tons of mistakes in my life and I have learned from it. I learned that human learning is long-term. I use the word 'learn' a lot in this blog and that just proves human learning.
