Summary: (Set between Day 1 & Day 2.) Jake spends three weeks in the office with Albert. The S.T.A.R.S team is unproductive and annoying as a result.
Context:
No zombies and nothing bad ever happened. Well except for Chief Irons canonically being a serial killer. He's in jail and Marvin is Chief of Police. Leon joined the RPD in early 2000, not 1998. You’ll see why, although I’m sure you can guess why based on everything listed below.
I made up all their birthdays (except for the years) and changed Jake’s birth year.
Well his nextdoor neighbour, Ms. Connolly, had a mildly twisted ankle from tripping in a gopher hole. Due to this, she would not be able to watch Jake for Leon and him for the next three weeks. Thus Albert had to work out an agreement with his boss to be able to have Jake with him in the office.
Now the idea of being able to spend more time with his son wasn’t what made him dreadful. Nor was it about Ms. Connolly being hurt; although that did make him worried for her health.
No, what made him dreadful was the S.T.A.R.S team.
Based on their reaction upon finding out he had a family, he knew they were going to be insufferable about this. He was sure they were going to make fun of him and mess with him. Not to mention all the germs they carried could make Jake sick.
“Remember, Jake, cry like you’re being murdered if anyone tries to pick you up without asking.” Albert stated as he drove to the station, “Especially Redfield, neither of us need you being dropped on your head.”
Albert heard him giggle from the backseat and the jingle of his toy keys. He took that as a sign of his son agreeing with him.
Soon enough, they got to the station and Albert parked his car in the station’s underground garage before getting out. Walking around to the trunk, he grabbed the baby supplies before picking Jake up in his carseat.
They had arrived before everyone else so the station was quiet. Just as Albert intended. He did not want to stop every five minutes to fake politeness with people he didn’t know as they cooed over Jake. Especially not before eight in the morning.
“Look around, Jake.” Albert said, “Soon enough you’ll be walking and ruling this place with a tiny iron fist.”
Jake squealed in excitement and scared himself in the process due to the echo.
“Don’t cry, it’s just you.” Albert told him, “Come on, let’s get you set up in my office.”
Much to his delight, they were the first ones in the S.T.A.R.S office. So Albert took his time making sure his office was safe for Jake. Moving his desk to the side and setting the playpen up across from it. Dumping the small bag of toys from home into it before getting Jake.
“Alright, Jake.” Albert sighed as he set the baby down in it, “Enjoy the peace before the other children arrive.”
With that, Albert left him to play with his toys as he started on his paperwork and a large cup of coffee.
-
After the clock hit eight, the members of the S.T.A.R.S team began to trickle in. The first ones being Enrico and Barry of course as they wouldn’t dare to be late. Then came Rebecca, Brad, and Forest. And last, but not least, the trouble makers came a few minutes late. As usual.
“Hah! I’m the first one in!” Jill cheered, “I win!”
“You only won because you tripped me up the stairs!” Richard yelled.
“At least she didn’t bodycheck you into a wall.” Chris whined, rubbing his side, “My ribs hurt!”
“Or block you with her car.” Joseph added as he limped through the doorway.
“Well now that you’re all here, would you like to stop acting like a pack of feral dogs and sit down?” Albert sarcastically asked, “Unless you want to be fired of course.”
“No, Sir!” The four of them exclaimed as they scrambled to find a seat.
“Alright then, let’s get started.” Albert said, “As you all know, Earth Day is coming up and we will be helping out with the festivities. So I would like all of you to-”
“Is that a fucking baby?” Enrico asked, peering into Albert’s office.
“A baby? What’s a baby doing here?!” Forest exclaimed, “Did it get dumped on our doorstep or something?”
“It didn’t get ‘dumped’ on our doorstep.” Albert stated, “That is my son, Jake. I will be bringing him here for three weeks due to our babysitter twisting her ankle. So be on your best behaviour.”
“Our? So the mom didn’t run away? That’s good.” Forest said, not noticing Joseph and Richard choking on their laughter beside him.
“Huh, I always assumed you wore a ring so people would leave you alone.” Enrico shrugged.
Albert gave them both an angry look and huffed. If the team was braver, they would’ve told him he was pouting.
“First of all, I have a husband and yes Jake is our son.” Albert stated, “Secondly, you two are going to be on port-a-potty watch for Earth Day and taking any calls from the Wrights.”
“Aw, come on!” Forest whined, “All they do is call us to try and get their neighbours arrested. Then we have to explain to them why spying on their neighbours is bad like it’s rocket science!”
“Then I suggest you start reading up on rocket science, Speyer.” Albert replied with a smirk before turning to Enrico, “What about you, Marini? Do you have any complaints?”
“Nope, just tell me who you’re married to.” Enrico joked.
“I’m not telling you-” Albert started before he was cut off by Richard.
“It’s that hot blonde rookie!” Richard told them, “Leon Wesker-Kennedy. He calls the Captain ‘Al’.”
“Aiken, you’re-” Albert growled before he was once again cut off by Richard.
“Yeah, yeah, I know.” Richard huffed, not looking regretful at all with a big smile on his face, “Totally worth it.”
“Fine.” Albert gritted out, “Now here are your duties for today.”
The team did their usual Monday whining and complaining, but this time with the added questions of his personal life to try distracting him. Unfortunately for them, Albert had self control and an iron will, so they didn’t get anywhere. Receiving their assignments and sulking back to their desks. Except for Barry and Enrico of course who quietly accepted their tasks and got to work.
However, today they did have something to say.
“Nice job, Captain.” Enrico said, slapping Albert on the back so hard he nearly fell over and walking out the door with a smug smirk.
“Here’s some recipes.” Barry said as he handed Albert a binder, “They really helped my wife postpartum.”
Albert frowned, but took the binder and stomped into his office. Closing all the blinds so no one could look in before turning to Jake.
“Not even an hour in and they’re already causing trouble.” Albert signed as he kneeled in front of the playpen, “I lied, you can’t even crawl yet and you’re already running this place.”
Jake gave him a bright smile and kicked his legs.
“Hm… Yes, maybe I should call him.” Albert nodded as he stood up and walked over to his desk, “Later though, I need to stew in my anger for a moment.”
It was something Leon had taught him; taking a moment to calm down in order to see if it was something he really should be angry over. It helped a lot when his OCD was acting up and he was overreacting. If he was still angry about this an hour later, then he’d call his husband.
-
When Leon’s phone rang, he was annoyed at first since it was a couple minutes before his lunch break, but then he recognised Albert’s voice and perked up.
“Hey, Al. What’s up?” Leon asked.
“Come to the office.” Albert ordered.
“What? Why? Is something wrong?!” Leon exclaimed.
“Just come to the office.” Albert demanded before hanging up.
Leon immediately bolted out of the room and ran upstairs. Thinking that something bad happened to Jake, he was in full panic mode. Skipping over stairs and sliding around corners. When he got to the S.T.A.R.S office, he tried to open the door, but it was locked.
Just as he was about to start banging on it, Albert opened it and pulled him inside. Locking it again once he was through.
“What’s going on?!” Leon asked, “Is Jake okay?!”
“Jake is perfectly fine; he’s taking a nap.” Albert stated, “It’s me who is upset.”
Leon calmed down a little at hearing their baby was fine, but he was still worried. Noticing how tense Albert was and how angry he looked.
“Oh, Al.” Leon quietly said, gently rubbing his husband’s arms, “What happened?”
Albert gave him a brief glance and then went back to glaring at the floor.
“These people are impossible.” Albert huffed, “I had to lock them all out of the office just so Jake could take a nap. It’s like none of them heard the words ‘boundaries’ and ‘silence’ when they see a baby.”
Ah, so the S.T.A.R.S team had been gushing over Jake. That’s what this is about.
“I- I’m sure some of them were well behaved.” Leon stated, trying not to laugh, “What about Enrico and Barry? You said they still listen to you.”
“Well I was wrong!” Albert exclaimed as he started to pace around the room, “They’ve been corrupted by the others!”
Leon knew it was best to just let Albert rant and rave until he ran out of steam. So he grabbed the closest chair and got comfortable.
“How?” Leon asked as sat down, “Why do you think they got corrupted?”
“Because Enrico slapped me on the back and said ‘Nice job, Captain’ with a smug smirk on his face!” Albert yelled, “And don’t even get me started on Barry!”
“What did Barry do?” Leon questioned him.
“He had the gall to give me recipes that help with milk production!” Albert shouted, “As if I’m some incompetent fool who can’t take care of you or Jake at all!”
Well that’s nice of him, Leon thought, Maybe we can try some of them later.
“Oh! Oh! And just before all that, Aiken called you the ‘hot blonde rookie’!” Albert snarled.
“But I am the hot blonde rookie.” Leon said.
“I know!” Albert huffed, “But only I’m allowed to say that!”
Ah, he’s jealous, Leon realised, But maybe that was the end of it?
“Then the idiots spent the rest of the day coming into my office to ask stupid questions just so they could see Jake!” Albert growled before speaking in a high pitched voice, “Oh Captain, can you tell me how to file a report again? Captain, where do we keep the extra stationary? Captain, I have a papercut and I don’t know where the first aid kit is despite it being clearly marked on the wall? Captain, I spilled coffee on the floor, can you go get the mop?”
Wow, they really have been driving him nuts, Leon thought, I guess I should calm him down before he kills them all.
Leon got up with a tired sigh and pulled Albert into a tight hug. The other man struggled at first, but then calmed down and leaned his head on top of Leon’s, smushing his cheek into his husband’s forehead.
“There, there. No reason to be jealous.” Leon soothed him, rubbing the other man’s back, “You’re right, you take care of us like we’re royalty. Always predicting what we need and having it ready before we even ask. Always making sure we’re safe before focusing on yourself. You’re a wonderful husband and father.”
“Then why do I feel like a bad one?” Albert mumbled.
“Because you have trouble accepting help.” Leon told him, gently pinching Albert’s face when he made a face, “Don’t give me that look, you do.”
“Hmpf, fine, I do.” Albert admitted, “And I suppose Barry would be the best source of help. He has been through this three times.”
“See! There you go!” Leon cheered, “That’s one good thing that happened!”
“Still, how do I get the others to stop being so annoying?” Albert asked, “Because ordering them around hasn’t been any help.”
“Ah, don’t worry about it.” Leon scoffed, “The excitement of having a baby in the office will wear off when Jake throws one of his screaming fits. I’m sure of it.”
“Hm, if you say so.” Albert sighed, “I just don’t like the idea of our baby being in distress.”
“Neither do I, but you know how Jake gets.” Leon shrugged, “Remember when we got the wrong soothers?”
“Oh I remember that terrible week.” Albert nodded, “Who knew the shape of a nipple could be so offensive to a month old baby.”
The two of them chuckled at the memory. Remembering how they had tried everything and how all it took to stop the crying was just going to the store for a soother in a different shape.
“Jake is a very opinionated baby.” Leon stated, “He gets it from you.”
“I can’t deny that.” Albert chuckled before glancing at the clock and turning back to Leon with a devious smirk, “We still have thirty minutes before lunch is over and Jake is still asleep. Let’s spend some time together.”
At first Leon thought Albert was referring to food, but then he realised what he actually meant.
“Oh no.” Leon laughed, “Have I corrupted you?”
“Yes, you should be very ashamed.” Albert joked before kissing him and dragging him over to the nearest desk.
Leon almost felt bad for whoever's desk it was.
Almost.

When the S.T.A.R.S team came back from lunch, they were surprised to see how happy their Captain was. They were a little afraid that they had broken him earlier, but he seemed fine now.
“Wonderful, you’re back.” Captain Wesker cheerfully greeted them, “I have more assignments for you, they’re on your desks. Speaking of which, go clean yours, Redfield.”
“But- I already did!” Chris exclaimed.
“No, I don’t think so.” Albert said as he walked back to his office, “It’s very clearly a mess.”
Chris huffed and went to his desk, finding nearly everything tossed on the floor.
“What the hell happened?!” Chris exclaimed, “Everything was fine when we left! It looks like a tornado swept through!”
Jill and Joseph, who had seen a very pleased looking Leon leave before everyone else arrived, let out a snort as they tried to contain their laughter.
“What?” Chris asked, “Do you know what happened? Did you do this?”
“No! Of course not!” Jill laughed, “Just… Maybe you thought you cleaned it, but you actually didn't.”
“Yeah!” Joseph giggled, “You had one of those brain fog moments. Too much… Excitement in the office today.”
Chris looked unsure now and glanced back at his desk.
“Did I?” Chris whispered, “Maybe… I don’t know anymore.”
Chris was confused about why Jill and Joseph were snickering behind him, but he didn’t want to get in trouble again so got to cleaning. Wondering if maybe he should take a vacation since he couldn’t even remember cleaning his own desk.
Meanwhile, Albert looked on with a triumphant smirk as he held Jake.
