Okay something drowning in fics has made me realise a lot of the times LWJs actions are boiled down to me motivated by his love for WWX, which I feel is dishonouring his character.
He is, at his core, someone who believes in justice in the world, which as a child, he thought came from the rules around him. While there was a sense of attraction towards WWX, it was also the understanding of WWX as a person, someone who is willing to stand for the righteous path, even at the cost of social ostracisation, that made LWJ fall for him.
The conflict between them was not of ends but the means of achieving them. And it wasn't until WWX's death could LWJ truly acknowledge the flaws in the system around him to the point where he could justify rebelling against it.
And yes, a lot of his actions are in WWXs favour, but that is not because he loves WWX, but more because WWX stood for the same principles LWJ did.
