The Telugu film Geethanjali (1989) is 100% the blueprint for all the best romantic fanfics and here’s proof

✅ enemies to friends to lovers

✅ the angst the romance the PASSION they ARE the Cruel Summer music video

✅ both of them have the same problem (terminal illness) but process it in different ways which makes for more interesting character development

✅ character a learns to just live in the moment after watching character b do the same in order to deal with their illness

✅ character a lies about their terminal illness to protect character b from getting hurt

✅ character b breaks up with character a because they realize they finally have something they love and care for and can’t ever bear to watch them die

✅ character a doesn’t want to hurt character b any further so they leave

✅ and then after going through a life changing incident character b realizes they fucked up by letting character a go and runs after them in the train station and they kiss and literally say till death do us part 😭😭😭

I do not care what anyone says because this movie has EVERYTHING it is THE blueprint and no other romance (Telugu or otherwise) will ever live up to this one
