The 90's electronica musicians ended their noughts well. Then again, that genre did not have the same fall from grace during the era like nu metal. The latter genre caused many musicians in the idiom to be lost, which can also be felt by one of the bands that transcended the style, i.e. Slipknot. While All Hope Is Gone – definitely a typical title for a nu metal album – does surprise us, a sense of exploration present here doesn't work in their favour as the record seems like a dare to their audience without being playful about that. One can tell there were many issues in the studio – Corey Taylor spoke of this –, but you can glean their intentions to go beyond themselves. Shame about their hearts not being there at the time.
