So Richard Fox (Pubba) and Birdie (Mumma), of course have animal names, which is pretty perfect as the parents of the first hybrid kid.

But Bear eventually returns to being Becky, because at the end of the day she can't escape who she is.

Now the Abbotts, well, they're the leaders of a cult, followed by scores of monks desperate for answers to a world that doesn't make sense, and a purpose in this new society. Douglas is an abbot of a dying religion, and Johnny wants nothing more than to follow him, even though he knows its wrong.

Sweet Tooth tells us that their names are important when we discover that Gus is an acronym for Genetic Unit Series 1, but the meanings go so much deeper than that
