Blade of Grass
Synopsis: In a time of war there is no ring to propose with, but even a blade of grass would suffice.
Pairings. General! Lilia V. x Gn! Reader
Contains. established relationship (not yet engaged), planning a proposal, I wanted to write more for General Lilia than actual Lilia sooo I'm sorry if this seems ooc or not like him, I tried to make it as General-ie as I could...
a/n Happy New Year and Happy Birthday Lilia!!
The breeze was cool against the field of green grass and small white flowers. It smelt like rain, but the two didn't care. Not even when they felt the air moisten around their skin.
General Vanrouge sat beside his love, (y/n). Lilia had plans upon plans to propose, yet he was unable to. Not because he was against marriage and all the emotions that went along with it, no. He was unable to get a ring.
The general had never been incredibly lovey-dovey, but he knew how to treat his beloved. He knew he had to get a proper jewel of their liking in a gold or silver band and slip it onto their delicate finger, bare of the scars of war in comparison to him.
(y/n)'s hand fiddled with the flowers in the fertile field. They seemed to be making a flower crown, one that, to Lilia, was just perfect. Some of the petals and leaves had fallen back into the blades of grass, but it was still beautiful because it was made by his beloved.
(y/n) seemed to notice their love's staring. Concerned, they asked,"Is something the matter, Dear?"
Lilia's pink eyes flew up to make eye contact with (y/n)'s own (e/c) eyes. "Yes. I'm alright Beastie."
The (h/c)ette simply stared at Lilia. They knew he was thinking long and hard about something. Something that bothered him more than it should've.
"Is there something wrong with the war?"
"No, I'm alright."
"Perhaps it's Prince Malleus or Queen Maleanor?"
"Beastie, please..."
"Lilia, why can't you just tell me? You know I'd never ridicule you for feeling something." (y/n) sighed, putting their hand on top of Lilia's as if to encourage and comfort him.
He looked away for a moment, "...I don't want to ruin the surprise for you." He murmured.
(y/n) remained in a confused silence at his words. "What do you mean... surprise?"
The silence was thick, quiet enough to hear the soft sound of rain picking up and hitting the grass beneath them.
Lilia groaned. "I suppose I can't hide this from you much longer..." He leaned his free hand on his knee and bashfully turned away with a pout. "I wanted to propose, but I have no ring."
(y/n) was utterly gobsmacked. Their boyfriend had been waiting until after the war to propose to them? He was only upset because he didn't have a ring?? This really was a surprise!!
In their speechless shock, (y/n) began to find themself giggling at the absurdity of the situation. "Oh dear, you don't need diamonds and gems to propose to me Lilia," They looked admired the peaceful yet damp surroundings then plucked a long blade of grass from the soil, "You could wrap one of these blades of grass around my finger and I'd say yes."
Lilia's eyes widened,"You shouldn't say such things, you deserve much more than that considering it's a proposal."
(y/n) simply smiled at him. "Lilia please, I don't mind at all."
The man only sighed, taking the blade of grass from his beloved's hands.
Without a word, he began wrapping and knotting the blade of grass around their finger. His hands were rough and calloused from the years of war, but his touch was gentle. Once he was finished, he looked up for approval.
"Will you marry me, even if it's with a blade of grass... even if we're in the middle of war?"
The rain pounded like drums against the ground as it slowly became muddy and wet, yet the only sound they could hear was the drumming of their own hearts.
"Of course Lilia, I'd love to marry you."
Their words were sickeningly sweet to the bat fae. He slowly pulled his lover against his now wet body, pulling them in for a kiss as a way to seal the affirmation.
They had no idea how long the war would continue, but that would soon mean nothing to them. Years later, they stood tall at the altar, hand in hand, officially tying the knot and becoming one with each other.

𑣲
You pressed your finger tips to your mouth. Tracing the ridges of your lips, feeling the plum skin as you stare off into space. You couldn’t really grasp as to why you’re so distracted as of late. You just been…thinking a lot of things. Tho, that might be not the best time when you’re trying to navigate through a forest where you could get lost or hurt if you aren’t paying attention.
You nearly trip & fell if it wasn’t for silver who managed to catch your arm the split second you were about to tumble over. Glad he has lighting fast reflexes.
You’ve been thinking a lot of things now you have time to ponder now. Specifically, you’ve been thinking about…
Lilia.
In his dream, he was nothing like the Lilia you’ve come to know at night raven college. The one who knew how to surprise you, who was in the pop music club, who loves being cute & had pink streaks in his hair. The pink highlights are what you remembered & think about most about him.
In here, he was intimidating, rough, ragged, with red streaks instead of red.
Complete 180 from the person you met.
He wasn’t necessarily kind, nor, welcoming when he first interacting with you & your friends. That said, he did keep his word of letting you guys tag along when you asked…
You had to fight him to get him to agreed but you digress.
That said, you could see that he was slowly warming up to you & your friends. For you, it seemed he was annoyed of you. You were the more quiet out of all the whole group, yet you did managed to get yourself into trouble more the rest since… well, you’re a magicless human. That seemed to give him more trouble then it was worth but you did try to stick with Silver to make it easier for everyone so you didn’t make this journey more harder then it needed to be.
Tho, eventually, he seemed to be warming up to you. He did gave you his cloak that helps keep you warm when you started to become numb to the cold in the rain. You felt bad for accepting since you didn’t want to take something, even briefly, that belongs to him.
He didn’t budge tho, saying you’ll catch a cold if you don’t have something warm at the given moment. It was a small thing but it did warm your heart to think of your well.
It actually makes you think of how much he’s been looking out for you. He’s been trying desperately to keep you safe as much he can. Keeping you within his reach as to be more able to protect your fragile human body.
This astonished you. Seeing this fae that once hold contempt for you grow slowly, but readily, protective of your well being. In a way, it set your heart ablaze with a warm, fluttering feeling that reach to your stomach.
To come to think of it, you remember that he attempted to protect you from being hurt by ironclads, but it was just the two of you when you both got separated from the group, so you had to retread.
In the midst of running away as fast as you could, you stumbled as your foot got caught on a rock. Lunching you forward, where you could’ve fall face first into the grass. Only saved by Lilia grabbing your arm, jerking you back to him. He spun you around in the rush of it all, in his hurry to pull you back to him before you made contact with the ground. You felt your body pressed up against him, reaching up to wrap your arms around his neck to leverage yourself from making a misstep from falling again.
But that only seems to drag him down with you. Before you knew it, you fell to the ground on your back, Lilia on top of you…
You closed your eyes tightly from the impact & adrenaline, taking to relax your body & mind from the panic of getting away. You prayed to the great seven that you two got away from the ironclads, you were in such in a thrill of getting away that you didn’t realized that you were holding your breath.
But you soon realized why that you weren’t holding it to begin with.
Once you open your eyes you saw Lilia face very close to yours. His blood red eyes was the first you saw. Your own widened in shock.
His lips were firmly pressed against yours. Lock together in what to seem to be the unknown eye, a sweet kiss. But to you & Lilia, it was more of surprise & bewilderment.
Your cheeks start to warm up at the memory. The feeling of his lips still seems to linger in your mind. As does how your bodies were intertwined. His leg in between yours, one hand holding your arm, the other on your hip.
It’s been bugging you since that happened. It’s been like 2 weeks since then. From then, you couldn’t get it out of your mind. Even when you’re just conversing with him casually, your gaze remains fixated on his lips. Your thoughts tracing back to that vivid image from that moment.
You shift your body sideways, plopping on the bed with a soft thud, knees close to your chest with your arms loosely around them. Your face felt like it was getting warmer as your cheeks darken by a strong shade of red. Letting out a groan.
‘This is ridiculous! One kiss & I’m losing it!’ You thought to yourself. Chastising your own dumb brain for being so Laser focus on from one interaction that was purely an accident!
That’s right, an accident! That was never meant to happen. The fault is on of gravity bringing you both into such a position. So why must be so worried about this?
You two did acknowledge that it was nothing. Lilia stating that he didn’t expect to for his face to become so close to your own, let alone plant a kiss. Apologizing for the unintended close an intimacy.
You brushed it off, forcing a smile with a wave of your hand that it was okay & that you knew that he didn’t mean to. Even with the lingering feeling of sharp flutter deep within your stomach.
But now… you can’t seem to not stop thinking about it. It both confused & annoyed you.
Lifting your face from your knees, you breathe a sigh. Maybe this is due to being your first kiss. You never knew what the feeling of lips against yours until that moment, so it might be you processing it. Maybe in a while, you’ll process it with it just be one of those experiences that you’ll carry with you as you continue to grow. You just need to give it a few days…
You should probably get some sleep.
Uncurling from your position, you straighten yourself out. Sitting up for a moment as you bring your blankets up to your lap. Readying yourself for your slumber that you’ll need for tomorrow’s march.
That is till you hear a familiar voice from outside your tent.
“Y/N, are you awake?”
Was that Lilia? You straightened up again, your heart dropped for a moment with a strong pulsed against your chest.
“Y-Yes.” You answered timidly.
“Is it alright if I come in? I need something to discuss with you.”
It sounded serious so you allowed him. He pushes the wings of the tent’s entrance, revealing himself from the other side. Your heart stopped for a moment. A hand subconsciously reaching to your chest.
“So… what’s up? Everything okay?” You asked. Fiddling with your collar.
He gave you a nod, coming more closer to you. His arms crossed over his chest. You didn’t look him in the eye but you could tell he was frowning.
“You didn’t come out for supper. I came to see if something was amiss.” His voice was soft, his face remained as serious as ever but you could tell he was trying not to scare you off. “May I?” He gestured to your bed to sit which you gave him the okay. Followed by your own answer.
“I wasn’t really hungry, so I just decided to turn in early.”
You felt the bed weight shift the moment Lilia sits. Just as the world is out to embarrass you, your stomach growls. Starling you with thoughts of wanting to die now. The general smirks at you.
“You say that but it seems your body disagrees.” He pulls out what appears to be leftovers from dinner. Did he…save for you? “Here. You’re gonna need to eat for tomorrow’s walk.”
You hesitated for a moment, but you aware that how he was gonna get if you didn’t eat. Swallowing your pride & avoidance, you take the meal he prepared for you. Munching it down to fill your stomach.
Lilia gazed at you with a small smile on his lips. Watching you for a moment of you giving your body what it will definitely need for tomorrow. Then switching to what he came here for aside from getting you to eat.
“Are you sure you’re all right? I noticed you’ve been distracted as of late.” He inches a bit closer to you. “Are you not feeling well?”
You shake your head. Staring at your food as you continued to eat.
“I’m okay… I guess I just be preoccupied.” He stayed quiet. Waiting for you to continue. You take a breath. “I’ve been thinking about something honestly. Something that happened with you & me.”
“Go on.” He urged.
“Well… do you remember that night when you & I got separated from the others & trying to get away from the ironclads?”
Lilia narrowed his eyes from the mention of them. Wondering where are you going with this, but he didn’t had to ponder on it too long once he saw your pink cheeks.
“Yes..“
“I—I’ve been thinking about the kiss you & I…shared.”
Lilia was at first taken, aback. His own blush taking form on his pale face which he quickly hide before you get the chance to see it. Clearing his throat, he asked his own question.
“Any particular reason why you are thinking of this?”
No judgement, no lectures about thinking of something “ridiculous” just—a question. You weren’t expecting that but you proceed to answer.
“The more I thought about it… the more I realize that was my first kiss.” You put away the dish on the floor, now resting your hands on your lap. “So… I was kinda processing it since it was my first experience with a kiss.”
You were kinda starting to feel stupid admitting this to him. At your age, even younger, people would have experienced getting their first kiss & beyond that. But you haven’t. You never were someone to put yourself out there for someone you might have a slight interest for. You were just quiet & perfer to be in the background. One you were comfortable with &…was embarrassed by since you felt like a novice for never getting into a relationship.
You were prepared to be teased by Lilia for being so young but haven’t experienced what you first got to from him, accident or not. Only to be meant with surprise with a trace of curiosity.
“Was that really your first time having someone kiss you?”
You nodded. “Not how I would imagine get my first kiss, but definitely an experience.” You try to make a joke out of it to ease the awkwardness that you felt in that moment. At least to not overthink of how this conversation was going.
“How did you imagine it?” Lilia got more closer to you. There was no shame in his question, just simple wanting to know how you felt about this.
He couldn’t seem to understand himself as to why he’s asking this himself, yet he did as long you’ll willing to indulge in this conversation.
Shift side to side a bit, then decided to lay down as your exhaustion starts to creep in. Staring up at the ceiling of your tent. Fingers lace together as you gave your answer.
“I guess in a way that is intimate. One that doesn’t hold back with being close to me as much they want to be. While also being gentle.” Your head starts to be filled with images how, in an alternate world, that is would be your first kiss. In a way, Lilia was the one you imagine kiss you so passionately. A warm feeling enveloped within you. A hand now touch your thigh where Lilia’s own leg was pressed against from when he once was on top of you.
In a way, you wish he indulged the kiss longer.
You pull yourself away from such thoughts, your gaze falling back on Lilia. “Why do you ask?” You notice something different in Lilia. He seemed lost in thought like you were several times through the day. Your heart starts to pound. His stare making you squirm a bit.
He brings a hand to your cheek. Feeling the warmth of your pink glow that seems to grow brighter as he touch you ever so softly.
“If you would like…I could make it more to like how you imagine it to be then how it turned out. Only if you would like.” He offered.
Your eyes widened. Shoulders tensing from what he was offering. You weren’t uncomfortable, just… not sure how to respond. Yet, you knew deep within your heart, you did what to take upon his offer. Maybe not just to have that opportunity to experience you imagine a kiss would feel like for the first time, but to feel his lips against for just a moment.
With a nod, you close your eyes. Gesturing his to take the lead. Slowly, he takes hold of your cheeks with both hands. Leaning over to where he was hovering over your face with his own. Your face looked so peaceful, so delicate it send a feeling in Lilia that he felt before. With one last breath to calm his nerves, he brush your lips with his, locking them into a kiss.
The kiss was gentle, testing the waters to when to proceed further. You brought your hand to his neck, pulling him closer. Indicating that you wanted to feel him closer to you. Heeding your call, he kisses you deeper, tasting you within.
Your lips were addicting, putting him under a trance. The same was for you. The way he kiss you was short of nothing but bliss. Just when you thought the yearning would lessen once you felt him against you again, only for it to increase.
You lost everything around you, just embracing this moment while you can. Just wanting to feel his lips for as long you can. Small gasps & moans escape as he parts from you before going back to taste you again. You could feel his fangs scrape at your skin. Tugging your bottom with a slight nibble. Just to get you to let out more of those sweet sounds from you.
He broke away from the kiss, just as dazed as you were, only letting out a few words.
