What is the grief one about?

Grief is a Hawke/ Isabela fic. First time writing this pairing and oh wow I was nervous. Hawke doesn’t have time to grief and is hurt that Isabela left even now that Isabela is back she’s still hurt and can’t find it in her heart to forgive Isabela. Prompted by @corylion Here’s a snippet:

"The Champion of Kirkwall!" Meredith said and with it, the whole room cheered. Even Isabela did.

Hawke avoided her gaze as she buried her anger deep away. 

When Isabela went with nothing except a note it felt like someone ripped her heart out. It seemed like Hawke meant less to her than she thought. 

But when she came back with the book Hawke felt herself wanting to forgive her. Well almost.

The Arishok gave her a choice. But she couldn't give Isabela up. She meant too much. Yet after this, she wanted nothing to do with the pirate that meant more to her than she could possibly say. 

Isabela crushed her heart in more pieces than she could count. 

Everything hurt. Blood was pouring on the ground but she couldn't care less. 

It felt like an eternity since Meredith raised her hand. Everything felt hollow. She felt like no Champion. Hawke felt like a failure. 

I couldn't even save my mother. 

Mother…

Hawke squeezed her eyes shut. That was another thing she failed in. Hawke was too slow. Too weak.

Does your cat let you kiss her forehead,

She does not! She's very twitchy about anything coming from up above and touching her head. I think she had a bad experience before I met her. :( She's very happy to accept scritches on her cheeks and jaw and the back of her head though. When I just need to kiss her, I kiss her back leg, and she puts up with that.The CUTEST thing she does, right now anyway, is when I've freshly refilled her water bowl and she doesn't know how deep the water is, she'll take her little paw and dip it into the bowl to gauge so she doesn't get her nose wet.

Off the top of my head, there's going to be a perfume that smells like outer space, Hungarians invented a fish, and Israel is looking to end conversion therapy.

I agree with everything, but I want to add I don't blame anyone for promoting Stone Butch Blues without reading it. It was one of the hardest books I've ever read. I didn't retain most of it, and I'd still promote it.

I would not blame someone for not reading or retaining the full text of everything they’re promoting. SBB in particular is, yeah, a hard read. It’s got a lot of difficult things going on: the language was hard to parse even at the time, let alone now when the political and social climate it’s talking about (that it’s assuming you know about on a personal level) has all but evaporated, the style can be dense, the subject matter is anywhyere from emotionally draining to outright traumatic. I don’t blame anyone for not being able to get through it, or for not remembering all the details if they did.

But the thing is, she wasn’t “promoting” the books. Nor was she misremembering small details of SBB.

She was using a book written about a trans/genderqueer butch as proof that trans and genderqueer people cannot be butches. She was misrepresenting the core messages of the book.

She was ripping our own history out of our hands and beating us up with it, and doing so in the same post wherein she was telling butches and femmes of color that as a white woman she “can’t talk about us” but that we still can’t use our own language to describe our own lives.

So, she gets 0% leeway and 0% sympathy. She used it all up with her barely veiled anti-trans bigotry, and her completely unabashed racism.

ETA (June 22, 2019, 14:10 EST): It occurs to me that you actually probably don’t know who the “she” I’m referring to here is, so I do want to clarify. I’m talking about a specific incident wherein a radical feminist went on an entire racist and “i’m not a transphobe but......” diatribe about how no one but lesbians should ever use the words femme or butch, especially not genderqueer or trans men, and cited Stone Butch Blues as evidence of that fact.

She did this in response to me, personally, pointing out that genderqueer and trans people have been using the terms for generations. She also specifically pointed out that she hadn’t read several of the archives and books which I provided as evidence of this history.

Set in the near future but not sure precisely when; let's just assume that it's time to rumble, and Emma Crewe is still comatose. Alice and Selva head off to get reinforcements, after a little side trip... Selva brings General Jinjur and her army from Oz, and the current Wizard of Oz for good measure. Alice brings fresh card soldiers from Wonderland.(Tweedledum & Tweedledee were also keen to battle, but couldn't agree who should wear the best pot on their head.) For the sake of argument, let's say it's Fish who gets turned into shoes, because she would really hate that, and it amuses me to think of her as a pair of fluffy kitten heels. I hope it amuses you too.How do they manage to travel to both worlds and open a large enough portal to accommodate them all? They had a little help.

Not all humans use base 10 math. The Sumerian used base 60. Other species might not intuitively count on their fingers just because we do.

That’s a fair point. 

We can only suppose, since a krogan makes a comment about base 10 that they use another system.
