I have another complaint and it’s directed at people who draw/write Ranboo being helpless and scared and pathetic.
Honestly, did you learn nothing from DSMP about him having 3-dimensional characters? This is the same thing that pissed me off back then. Please just look at EP 3. He was scared because who wouldn’t be in that situation?? But they were still determined to get out and showed an ability to be ruthless while still being compassionate and competent.
Even in the first two episodes he still had the name bite to him- just not to as serious as a degree since those episodes weren’t supposed to appear serious.
I’m not even saying to turn him into some cold blooded killer or someone who only cares about escape. Just for the love of god stop making them so one dimensional and pathetic. It pissed me off with DSMP and it pisses me off now.
In retrospect, there are SO many interesting things about The Puzzler.
Right from the get-go it’s established that he doesn’t want to actually kill Ranboo, or anybody, as shown by the beginning electrocution scene, and later, when he immediately regrets killing Niki. He’s not exactly… an intimidating villain. Of course, neither was Charlie, but The Puzzler also just doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing half of the time. He constantly is checking in on people to make sure they’re ok, and a lot of the time he just sort of seems like he wants everyone to succeed. He helps them with Mouse Trap, sends more people, and even tries to derail the whole game just to hang out following the dress-up segment.
Squiggles even says that Showfall just kind of lets The Puzzler “do his own thing”, which makes a lot of sense given the way he acts, but like in that case… who is he? Why does he get killed? How did he know he was going to get killed? If Showfall or the “security” was the one that killed him, then what does that mean? And what is going on with the shrine???
When Ranboo enters The Puzzler’s room, there’s a second where you can see a hand put the audio recorder on the table, and given the meta nature of Generation Loss, it doesn’t feel like a mistake to have that in frame of the camera. But does that mean the audio recorder was a last-minute script change?
And the key. The KEY!! The Puzzler said that whatever room that key unlocked would show Ranboo “the truth” and that “the truth will set you free”. But obviously before Ranboo got the chance to do that he got interrupted by fuckin’ Hetch so we never got to see what the fuck that was about, and that of course ended up all being a part of the show, but I get the feeling that whatever was going on with The Puzzler’s final message wasn’t part of the show. And in that case WHAT WAS HE TRYING TO SHOW RANBOO??!! WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH HIM?!??
I’d like to talk about those last 15 minutes, give or take.
Ranboo & Charlie, the first characters of a show that would grow so exponentially over the course of little over 5 hours.
Ranboo & Charlie, returning to the place where it all began. A first episode of confusion, but not quite fear, turning to a third in which terror engulfed the pair.
Charlie’s death was something that was expected, I’d say. Charlie would give his life to give Ranboo a chance to end the Experiments once and for all, and Ranboo would make it. Charlie’s last words were used to help Ranboo shut the facility down.
He was finished. They had completed the trials. They were free.
So, as any performer does at the end of their show, he bowed. He turned to a room empty of anyone that could applaud him and took his final bow, announcing what had to be their Finale.
Fitting. The finish was in the same room as the beginning, but the veil had been torn down.
Victory wasn’t an outcome that had ever been possible.
Ranboo had achieved all he could, but the game wouldn’t end. Nothing he did mattered, not really. It was all entertainment for them, even after he thought he had broken free.
His final bow was followed by a betrayal.
Tied to the wall, televisions projecting his greatest failures all around them with the threat of death looming over him, he was faced with a choice.
They could Live. Participate in these games forever— after all, he has been an interesting protagonist to follow— and Live. Or he could Die. End it all, right here, right now. He would be free.
But the choice wasn’t his, now was it? No, no it was ours. The audience that had been following him, that had been controlling him, would decide his fate.
They couldn’t play the games again. They had already hurt so many people. They had already been hurt too much.
Ranboo begged for his death. It was the only mercy that could be given now.
gl!niki is such an interesting character. the implications behind her repeating "im nice" so she wont die, and it genuinely working, until she gets killed and discarded like a background character. like she was the butt of the joke. like her, the nice girl, the pliant one, dying in such a uneventful way, was the gag in itself.
and the thing is that it's not a lie. none of the characters care. she's forgotten the moment she's off-screen, and the audience moves on. she was only there to play into the "fridging" trope and nothing else.
kinda like how niki's characters are either hated or used as stepping stones. kinda like how no one can bother to describe her beyond "she's nice." kinda like how, the moment another content creator starts to stream, they click off in favor of watching someone else.
basics in behaviour is SUCH a gl!charlie song especially when you consider the theory that charlie’s been brainwashed by showfall since he was a kid like
this works WAY too well for a kid being slowly indoctrinated and then in the final paragraphs being current adult charlie when ranboo finally breaks him free and it all comes crashing down as they try to escape and he realises it’s all been a lieeee
hello !! this is my first actual post so sorry if there's any weird formatting ! i have not seen anyone analyze ranboo's playlist for generation 2 yet so i figured i'd fill the gap !!
now some history, i am a ghost fan and have been a ranboo fan since 2020 so it's really cool to see two things collide !! i re-hyperfixated on ghost at the start of their current tour and it lined up perfectly with the release of generation 1 to get me back into watching ranboo too !! to see him add these songs to the generation 2 playlist set my brain on fire, so this is exactly what that fire looks like
i am primarily a ghost fan out of the songs chosen on this playlist so i am going to have a lot more to say about the ghost songs and if i say something wrong about the other songs or anyone has anything to add please feel free !!!
*NOTE: ghost is an inheritly satanic band, it's their whole theme. if that or religious themes in general make you uncomfortable, please do not read this analysis !!!!
here is the link to ranboo's playlist if anyone wants to follow along :D https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1XubFgT0bpuQDSwlLrZGTP?si=134b2fff3ba24375
kaisarion by ghost: kaisarion is about an old mathmatician and astronomer named hypatia. she got stoned to death by the christian church because they thought she was a witch for being an intelligent woman. basically the destruction of things you don't understand and don't bother to. also tobias forge, lead singer of the band, has stated that the song is like a violent start to a new empire, a call to arms of sorts. the burning away the past to build something new.
spillways by ghost: spillways is about how if the darkness in you is put behind a dam, it will always find a way to come out, through the spillways of your own soul. the darkness will never go away but through accepting it exists you can be greater than it.
faith by ghost: faith is a song from the perspective of satan watching the world fall to the black plague. this song can also be viewed as the people dying because they thought that god would save them so they did nothing to prevent their infection. i will get back more to this theme in the later songs, especially to misery fell.
he is by ghost: he is is basically just a satan worship song disguised as a regular worship song. take that as you will !
kiss the go-goat by ghost: linking this song coherently to the rest by far stumped me the most because of the vibe of the song (iykyk). but i have produced two links: the creation of the anti-christ and something not being what it seems to be. the chorus says, "it ain't always what it seems when you cling onto a dream, it ain't always there to please you". so something that the protagonist is connected to, which i will discuss later in the other songs, is not what it looks like. there is an evil inside it.
square hammer by ghost: the song's title can be interpreted as "truth hammer" because of being "square" with someone. the album it's connected to, meliora, is the third record produced by ghost. all three albums to that point had an overarching theme between them, meliora being the reign of the anti-christ on earth. square hammer is encourging the people to look to satan instead of god and to swear to the devil and the anti-christ. the devil and the anti-christ in genloss gen 2 will be likely not directly the devil because that is way too on the nose, but i have a feeling this overseeing entity referenced by the devil/the anti-christ will act similar to hetch.
crucified by ghost: this song is actually originally by another swedish band army of lovers and ranboo has sent their version of the song before in the genloss ranmail !! this is just the version he put in and i know better, but both songs obviously have the same lyrics. the name of the song pretty much says all the song needs to say, so that's all i have to say about it !!
another believer by rufus wainwright: this song is originally from meet the robinsons but i'm gonna be honest i know nothing about this song and genius has nothing to say but from the title you can pretty much assume the meaning !
everybody wants to rule the world by tears for fears: everyone has heard this song but this is also one that i think the meaning ranboo went for is already stated in the title of the song !!
homage by mild high club: homage is also pretty self-explanatory !! the connection i can see is "someone wrote this song before and i can tell you where it's from" meaning an event happening in generation 2 is probably not the first time it has happened.
jesus he knows me by ghost: this song is originally by genesis but the ghost cover was added to the playlist again so that is what i will be covering !! the song is a satire on tv preachers who will try to sell you the idea of religion and god for profit, which means they do not follow what they preach.
you're at the party by lemon demon: this song is about a supernatural entity inviting you to the part of the afterlife and i'm gonna be honest i don't think that's the meaning ranboo wanted us to get so i'm going to look at some of the specific lyrics instead ! in the refrain the song says "(wake up, wake up) and it's a place you've seen before ... a place you've seen before you were born". so this relates back to my interpretation of homage, the place and story we will see in gen 2 has happened before. the bridge also says "you're at the party, you're not alone" so this again refers to the overseeing entity.
he needs me by shelly duvall: the song basically says exactly what the title means again, but you can interpret this using the other songs i have already explained. the protagonist of gen 2 is likely being manipulated by the overseeing entity.
misery fell by tally hall: misery fell tells a story about a town who was unhappy with their lives so they gave up their knowledge and experience to get the things they dreamed of and experience bliss. they had turned to a religious entity for any happiness. the chorus says, "town without love too much faith in above?" so the people in this town have devoted their lives entirely to their new religious entity.
cannibal by tally hall: this song is again exactly what it says but this one scares me a lot !! we can look at the metaphoric meaning rather than the literal meaning of the word though. the chorus is "i am the willing victim of a cannibal, she rips out my bones like i'm an animal. and right when i'm feeling like my blood is drained, she calls it a game, but the wound she leaves is unmistakable". again, the manipulation of the protagonist theme comes back. they have been subjected to this pain by this entity and they think it is normal but it is definitely taking a major toll on them. the entity thinks nothing of it however.
that's all i have to say for now !! and like i said before, if you have any additions please feel free to add :D and do not take this as concrete evidence of anything that will happen in generation 2 !!!! this is just my ramblings !! take it as you wish !!
and if you like the vibe of 80s rock go listen to ghost !!!!
it’s clear his assigned color is red- it seems all characters / cast members have their own assigned colors maybe to fit in with generation loss (generation loss in images can cause loss of color and quality) or something about him matching the “heart” of the mall in the end like he was destined to be there
the jacket is a varsity jacket- usually they’re used for school pride or to display personal awards from athletics / school activities (college / high school) so if you believe showfall got their cast members when they were kids this adds to that theory, also him picking the exact right option everytime until the codes in episode 3
they also typically have some sort of name embroidered on them or the school or something, gl!ranboo’s is completely blank, in episode one when gl!charlie asks for his name he seems like he struggles to come up with a fake name so they can escape or that they’re blanking on their own name- that they’ve done this so many times part of their memories are lost to time
Borderline by Tame Impala on the Genloss Spotify playlist hits a bit different after the third episode
Ranboo was sat on the border of life and death
Our votes were what decided their fate, which from our perspective was done out of mercy, but from his probably seemed like we were not forgiving them for the things they'd done in the earlier episodes
Ranboo really did have the strangest night on Sunday
It was indeed quite a show, and Ranboo's character was certainly designed to be a loner type. How are you supposed to relate to the people you keep killing? How are you supposed to rationalize the fact that they don't remember any of it?
How did he end up in the Genloss mall anyways?
And they definitely didn't get away
The box scene was definitely painful, and the crucifixion pose ties into the literal biblical rapture as well
And just like a train moves fast and yet feels so slow because of it's length, those final minutes would have felt simultaneously like seconds and a lifetime
Ranboo definitely did not feel loved in those final moments, knowing we'd seen everything they'd done, he absolutely would not have known that we chose kill because we didn't want them to continue suffering
He also trusted Hetch and look where that got him lol
Starting to sober up, as in starting to truly realise the depth of what was going on, likely when their memories were returned
How long have they been there? Has it been long enough? Too long? When have they fulfilled their purpose? When is he no longer entertaining?
What's done is done and we can't change it. We just have to live with our actions
At the very least, assuming Showfall actually let him go instead of "recycling" him (which I still stand by because capitalism) they are now free and could maybe see the sun again
I won't mention the fact that the box would have caused him horrifically blinding pain which could be compared to the power of the sun and I won't mention that the sun could me a metaphor for the light at the end of the tunnel/going into the light either and I DEFINITELY won't mention that the sun coming in is like the world ending (because a solar explosion of that scale would wipe life from earth) and for Ranboo the world did end and for us it was absolutely irreversibly changed, because that would hurt to think about
